the why - Did not tell me that. Need to ask the recruiter
how does he know this? - He talked with the higher-ups before he replied

Unless the director of OCS accessions has sent out an email to the NRD's no one would know, and if the director sent out an email everyone would know.

I’m actually 44. With 8 years prior service. So the 42 thing USED to be, but my recruiter and I pulled the newest requirements from May 22 I believe, and they actually do not list an age requirement for 1830, 35 for the SWO Intel option, so we did not even submit an age waiver for Intel (AMDO said 42 so we did for that) we had to get me medically cleared, it was easy. I’m pretty fit. We both know it’s a long shot. But the old “you miss 100% of the shots…” thing. It wasn’t rejected by Richmond out of hand. They denied my age waiver for AMDO. Plus I have a OAR waiver (47).

Everywhere else I’m hanging in there with the rest of you. Not discouraged (but thanks for saying something)

I’m invested now. I sit in a SCIF as a contractor and there are a whole bunch of GS-14s and 15s that know all the goings on of this board, cause I pull up my contractor email, my personal email, and air warriors every morning.

For those that don’t make it, and wanna bide your time as a contractor, hit me up. I know of jobs in A LOT of places (looking at you Hawaii) I’m in Virginia.

I’m eyeing a possible GS-13 spot right now but it won’t open for 6ish months, so I have to wait either way.

At this point I just wanna see you all make it!

The issue from a community health/management stand point is your age.

Statutory age retirement is 62, so doing the math you really only have 17ish years to serve as an officer. That will barely take you to the O-5 level assuming you want to stay there AND you promote to O-5.

Communities want officers to have the ability to serve 20 years, to provide sufficient inventory and support community needs (i.e. milestone and command billets).

42 is the max age for someone to join, they don't need to put that info in the PA as it is based on federal mandatory retirement age of 62 for non-flag officers. You with prior service technically should be able to go to board, however you have to sign a document acknowledging that you will not be able to complete 20 years of commissioned service prior to mandatory retirement.

Some further info is that the only people I have seen been able to be selected and sign that waiver are those in medical/dental/chaplain fields.

Your recruiter should know all this.

I’m gauging the current state of the Navy, and wouldn’t my 8 count toward that retirement (8+12 more=20) at that point im 56…like I said, y'all are the experts, all sorts of strange stories out there no reason mine can't be one of em. my recruiters had all the same

Also, as stated all my eggs not in tbis basket, it was a shot that didnt cost me much more than time and it was more tban worth taking if it was one in a million…y'all sound like i should go withdraw my package lol. if i get selected i earned my spot, if i don't i know i didnt leave anything in the chamber…

I was the oldest when I returned to IS A school for the reserves is 2012 also by an average of 10 years, I was out PTing everyone except a few phenoms and a guy that was older than me in another class…

No one is doubting your physical fitness abilities.

The issues come from the limited ability to complete 20 years of commissioned service.

Additionally, your enlisted time (assuming that’s all active) makes you a bit of a risk around the O4 level when you may be retirement eligible (20 years total enlisted / officer)

Is your TIS active or reserve or mixed? they will evaluate to come up with equivalent AD time, so while a person may have say 4 years reserve time it could end up only being 6 months AD time when computed.

Again everything you are saying is logically true. I'm 44, add 20 years I'm 64, navy wants 20 years before 62. "Communities want people who can do 20 years" All of that is logical and technical and all TRUE. And it's PROBABLE that mine is the FIRST package on the "What the hell was he and his recruiter thinking pile"

My gamble is on the reality of the way things work. We both know hell we ALL know (lots of recruiters here) you take 10 candidates you send em all to boot camp. MAYBE 2 of them stay in 20 years, the others get out for various reasons.

So MAYBE they see me and say "well he can't do 20 moving on" very likely.

OR MAYBE they say "well damn, our numbers aren't exactly great lately.what if we only need him for 6..." I am sure there are plenty of commands that would take a 44 year old JO that can't do 20 years over NOTHING. If I am CNO and I need 100 new intel officers and only 30 applied (just made up numbers for an example, I don't have knowledge of this) I may be a bit more forgiving on the whole "20 years" thing.

That's my gamble, my recruiter looked at all the data and said "worth a shot", I agreed. As far as I know (my recruiter confirmed last moth that my package was AT THIS BOARD). That's all it is.

I'm telling you rules and regulations are all out there and you can look at them and allow yourself to be boxed in or you can take a shot.

Real world? I was completely unqualified for my current position on paper. I randomly applied cause I made myself apply to 10 jobs daily...3 years later I am the SME on certain aspects and if I died tomorrow in would take 12 months to train my replacement. NEVER let yourself look at something and say "the rules say I'll never make it" and then walk away.

Not a clue on my end, AFAIK if you've made it for intel they wouldn't consider your SWO package.

Jesus Christ, another day without an answer. Messaged my recruiter yesterday asking if I could retake oar and reapply for Jan 20 deadline and left without response.

Poor guy, I know I’m not the only one reaching out to him but I need to keep my house in order so I don’t add another year to my process… I also need maybe some coaching on what are my other options.. is CW a better option potentially or whatever..

In general you cannot submit another application at all if you are still under consideration for an application that is currently submitted.

You cannot retake the ASTB while having an application currently at board, that would invalidate your current score which is currently being evaluated.
