I go to the Barret Jackson in Scottsdale every year. Wasn't too long ago you could get a first gen Bronco in good reliable everyday driving condition for less than 10K. Always wanted one. Just didn't have anyplace to put it. Now I can't afford one. Always liked the IH Scout too. My brother had one of them.

Hard pressed to find one of these for les than $25K now. Most are more than $30K. Some way more.
BIL has an IH Scout that's been in the family since new. He's the second owner and has had it for 30+yrs. And it's been a 30yr labor of love to keep it "running." He's currently working on a full teardown and rebuild with his kids.

'18 VW Jetta wagon
Currently have a 2019 VW Golf Alltrack, bought new.
I knew I liked you guys.

CURRENT
2018 VW Golf Alltrack SEL
  • APR Stage I ECU (240 HP, 285 TQ)
  • APR DSG TCU tune (improves shifting delay, launch mode, and other stuff)
  • Child car seats ×2
  • Hauls the dog, 3 of 4 kids, and groceries pretty well
  • 35 mpg hwy
  • <= 20 mpg on my angry commute down Three Notch Rd
PAST
  • 2015 Golf Wagen TDI SEL (Sold back to VW in '17 for massive Dieselgate profit). It was a manual, making it quite the unicorn in the U.S.
  • 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T SE (APR Stage I ECU tune, suspension, integrated laser jammer, radar detector, and other special mods)
  • 1995 Dodge Neon (what a turd)
  • 1986 Ford Taurus Wagon (loved this one)

I wish we'd get the golf R wagon here.

Did your 03 Jetta smell like crayons? Do the new VWs still smell like crayons?

No, I don't remember ever having that problem, and all of my VWs were assembled in Mexico. My wife has had a Mexican Golf, German Tiguan, and now a Tennessee Atlas -- no crayon smell.

Obviously, we're a VW family, so I may be biased. I sold them at Fitzgerald for a few months before enlisting.

On the subject of previous rides - I am a veteran of two Volvo V 70's that served me exceptionally well in my "Dad" years of hauling kids (and teaching them to drive).

A 1998 V70 that I drove to 240K miles and still sold for $4,000

32182

which was replaced by a 2004 V70, and sold it after 200K for $5K to purchase the current GLK
