Hey man, good luck. Took mine earlier this month and scored 54 6/5/6, so decent enough and my recruiter thinks it'll be okay for what I'm applying for SWO/NFO, but I'm mentally preparing myself to take it again haha. I guess biggest difference is that ASVAB is at a high school level while OAR/ASTB is at a college level - take that as you will. Get good rest, eat a filling breakfast - it took me like 4.5 - 5 hours for the full exam + paperwork. Just make sure to read all of the instructions incredibly carefully, especially when you get to the performance based measure section.

not really, like what was said it is geared more for college graduates, recent college graduates to be specific.
Hi all! I'm currently about to go into my last year of college (on track to graduate with a BA in History and Anthropology) and I'm scheduled to take the OAR in mid May with the hopes of getting into OCS after I graduate. I've been looking over the study guides for the math and mechanical comprehension since I haven't taken a math course in nearly five years. My goal is to get into INTEL or something similar. I was wondering what score I should aim for as a minimum on the OAR to be seen as competitive. I have a 3.7 GPA currently and I know that by the time I graduate it will be at least a 3.8. I also did JROTC in high school, so I have no clue if that will win any points with the board. Thank you!

Do your best. I had a 50, but an intel background. We had people in the mid to upper 50s get passed on the last board.
I figured I'd have to get somewhere in the 60s to be seen as competitive. I was hoping that the GPA would play a bigger role. My backup is to go enlisted and get a year of experience in (hopefully INTEL) the service, retest if needed, and then reapply. Thank you for responding, Michael!

GPA is much more important than OAR, that and for Intel they want to know what else have you done, they are a small community so take more time reviewing the application for those that have good GPA's, than for instance aviation or SWO.
Since Intel is a small community it is much more of a crap shoot to get selected anyway, what will help you is your GPA is above the average of those selected which is about 3.5
If you go enlisted you can plan on spending more than a year enlisted before applying, each CO is different and might look for different things, I have seen CO's require a person get a warfare pin before they would recommend them for an officer program.

The enlisted path is not always a guarantee. On my board we had 55 packages and only two of us are coming from AD (the other was a fleet applicant). There were several fleet applicants passed over for various reasons. A year of experience in intel likely won't make a big difference. Depending on your job you may have a very limited scope. For instance, as a CTI or CTN, you may end up in a shop with a sigular focus and no understanding of the larger picture.

Yes it does sound funny. I guess I'm going to have to "wing-it" cause that's what I did for the ASVAB, I bought "ASVAB for Dummies" and read about 3 pages and said whatever happens happens! But no I've actually been studying for the ASTB with all the great gouge I've found on here. Thanks for your feedback!

I have the Barron's book myself and did the mechanical test and It's pretty good. Also got good overall reviews on the book as well as the mechanical test. It's for the most part from what I've read from the other responses that it's pretty head on with the Astb or OAR. Also what you can do is the flash cards as well. Others have use these as well. Get really familiar with them and know them like the back of your hand.

I'd really like some opinions on how competitive I would be if only putting SNA. I'm really battling with whether or not to put SNFO as well, I'm sure I would enjoy it but I feel like I would always regret not trying just for SNA.

If you want want to be a pilot then only put in for SNA and no one cares about extra-curriculars as they won't help you in flight school.
