FY 21 IWC DCO Reserve Board

Did they mention anything about ease of obtaining the LASIK waiver? I also had the procedure done and assumed (incorrectly) waivers were only needed for the flying community.

I went to MEPS in Salt Lake City; they had the waiver submitted within 2 days and an approval within a week. I can’t say if this is the norm, though.

Not yet--my recruiter said he had four of us picked up at the Sep board and none of our comdocs have arrived.

So my paperwork made it through command, NOSC, Region and the at the CNIFR last level I'm being told I'm going to have to MOB before I can get commissioned. The two years I spent overseas at Molesworth away from my family on ADSW orders don't count. Not a good day yesterday.

This has to be one of the worst things I have ever heard of. A guy in my old unit was selected on the same board as me. They made him mob and he didn't even commission until over a year after me. I really don't understand the logic in this.

I would agree and of course what could make this even more of a mess is that people are selected for a FY, so if he was selected for FY 21 and can't commission by the end of the FY they technically could take away his selection and have him re-apply.

According to BOL he did commission in the YG after mine. I don't think he had to reapply though.

^ with regard to that...

I served with a fellow JO in my last unit. She was downrange on an NSW mob as an IS2 after getting picked up for 1835. Someone who was looking out for her saw the dates on her paperwork, cut her mob short in an extremely quick manner (modified her orders), and got her flown back to CONUS on a special flight so she could swear in as an ENS on or about 29 Sep of that year. Luckily for her, she commissioned within her yeargroup and then obviously was safe from mob for the next 3+ years. IIRC, she still isn’t sure what would have happened if she hadn’t commissioned before 01 Oct but she said she’s glad she’ll never have to find out.

sometimes they do have flexibility, I remember our processors getting an email on a Monday then scrambling to get the docs done to commission a guy on a Wed or Thur before the FY ended, I also remember them getting emails saying if XXX XXXX can't commit to commission by Sept 30 his selection will be removed. They may give more flexibility to reservist, but at the end of the day if the numbers aren't met someone has to explain why and justify it.

Luckily the paragraph they are referring to says it should happen irrespective of the fiscal year. “All professionally-recommended enlisted IWC applicants currently mobilized or identified for mobilization shall be commissioned after demobilization, irrespective of the fiscal year. Additionally, those applicants who have not previously mobilized in their current rate or are outside dwell or deferment period shall be required to fulfill directed community mobilization requirements prior to commissioning.”

I had my first call with an OR last week and have a follow-up call next week. For those of you who have strong technical backgrounds, how did you choose between applying for 1815 vs 1825?

My career has been a mix UNIX/Linux/storage/networking/virtualization disciplines. I have never had an actual crypto job, but have a ton of practical experience in stuff like VPNs, IPSec tunnels, encrypted filesystems etc. When I look at the job descriptions, 1815 is more appealing to me than 1825, though I'd certainly be happy with an IP role. For those of you who were in similar boats, how did you decide - or did the board decide for you?

I have no programming experience so that probably precludes me from 1840.
