Not imposing unnecessary and/or ill-advised tariffs and claiming that it's not a tax on US consumers. Then redistributing those taxes to the industries affected by those tariffs.

Fair enough. Do you consider the tariffs on China a good thing or a bad thing?

Also any thoughts on the Universal Postal Union treaty that classifies China as a developing nation, giving them favorable postal shipping rates - the result being it is cheaper for China to send products to the US than it is for the US manufacturers to send items from state to state?

You might try extending some love and grace to those you don’t understand. Consider these questions:
  1. Has anyone died from receiving a vaccine?
On the other side, there is sometimes a kernel of truth which gives rise to the belief....I don’t deny that humans act irrationally, and make decisions unfounded by the statistical data. The downsides of getting your kids vaccinated are far smaller than the downsides of not getting your kids vaccinated. But humans are actually wired to ignore the data and give outsized weight to events that happen directly to them or a loved one. If your spouse or child dies or is harmed after receiving a vaccine dose, you probably won’t look at vaccines the same way ever again - even though statistically it is still a miniscule chance of side effect. And the more people (strangers) point at that and laugh and call you crazy, well, that probably doesn’t help.

I am willing to give people a benefit of the doubt but when you talk about anti-vaxxers the vast, overwhelming majority of them do not have first-hand or second-hand experience to point to as the foundation of their beliefs as injuries and deaths from vaccines are exceedingly rare. To be frank, there is no 'kernel of truth' there.

While the scorn many show anti-vaxxers may not help change their minds I don't think much at all will for the most hardcore ones as their beliefs are so far from reality no amount of evidence will persuade them otherwise. Those that show vaccine reluctance are more persuadable but I woudl leave that to the professionals, family practitioners and pediatricians, than to random commentors on the internet or Doctor Google.

Why focus only on Chinese goods? How about the tariffs on steel from several countries to include Canada, imposed under a law allowing the tariffs to be imposed due to a threat to our 'National Security'. One of our closest allies and their aluminum exports are a threat to 'National Security'?!

Some nice 'consequences' for a veteran involved in the events on January 6th at the Capitol, getting praised for going above and beyond the call of duty more than once and getting promoted (at least to 'Acting' for now) soon after along with maybe getting a gold medal too. For all the morons, idiots and losers who stormed the Capitol it is nice to know there are plenty of folks like Officer Eugene Goodman who continue to do their jobs well.

Randy, I really don't other than to say his trade policies were not within the normal conservative orthodoxy on free trade. Also, Peter Navarro was a kook who got hired bc he was on FoxNews, and should have never been near the Oval Office.

Also, nuking the TPP treaty was stupid and handed China more leverage

(and then all the rest of the post)

My love and grace winds down pretty quickly when the decisions people make negatively impact others around them. If somebody refuses to get on an airplane because they've seen news articles about a plane exploding -- regardless of the safety comparison to driving, etc. -- I don't care, because that's their choice, and it doesn't impact anybody else in their life except them.

But when people have the hubris to reject courses of action supported by the teeming majority of subject matter experts based on their own self-confident reasoning (or whatever other excuse), and when the result of that rejection will ultimately be a much larger damaging/fatal result for other people (I'm looking at anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, etc.), then no, I don't have much love and grace to spare, because most of it is depleted on the parties who put their blood, sweat and tears into doing the right thing, just to have it thrown back in their face for just about no reason at all.

I know these people are typically swayed by influencers like MSM talk show hosts, Facebook groups, politicians, etc...and (nearly) all my contempt is reserved for those parties, not for the average Joe Schmuck who eats it up.

I believe the root of your problem is FUCKS. You have too many, and you're giving them out to strangers. How much can you change the anti-vaxxers or climate change deniers? Seriously, how much can you directly affect their actions and the outcomes of said actions? If the answer is none or very little, then you need to stop giving your FUCKS to them. Let go of it. It's beyond you. All you buy with your FUCKS is anger, frustration, and shitty Thanksgiving arguments. Stop giving so many FUCKS to asshats you don't know and, instead, give them to the people you love around you.

Ideally you give nobody your fucks, but instead, steal their happiness. That happiness then becomes your own. It is simple and proven boat life logic. That science is settled comrades.

While I enjoy the sentiment, that's what I'm saying. If somebody wants to drink bleach to get rid of the demons, that's their prerogative, and I don't care. If enough of the nation doesn't want to vaccinate, that hurts the people I love. I knew somebody who died from COVID complications (at this point, I'm sure a fair amount of people do) and I know plenty more people who have been laid up hard with it (at this point, I'd guess most people do). And aside from them, literally everybody is STILL (!) living through this nightmare. We've finally got a way out and a huge mass of people are still like, "NAH."

EDIT: But here's a picture :)

As I recall, the national security interest was the industrial base of steal production, not that Canada was a threat. Theory was less steal from foreign sources, yes even Canada, would result in more production in the US, bolstering a vital industrial base. Did it work? Dunno. Haven't bothered to look for the original source data.
