I’m an IS1 with the reserves. I’ve been in reserves 10 years and have 5 years active in Marine Corps Intel too.

Good afternoon,

long time lurker and first time poster. I would first like to extend my gratitude to those already in the field that are willing to assist applicants, such as myself, with the process.

I am currently in the early stages of putting a packet together to apply for a DIRCOM Intel Officer position. My first hurdle, after the document gathering, appears to be MEPS. That will probably take place next month.

A little introduction information about myself:

- Graduated with BA in Political Science (State school) - 4.0 GPA

- Non-prior service

- 14 years as a federal Law Enforcement Officer. Currently, a Criminal Investigator working complex, international fugitive cases

- Various training certs (SWAT schools, firearms, active shooter, etc) and instruction experience

- Current TS/SCI

- Foreign Language Proficiency in Spanish

I look forward to the process and thank you all for keeping this site updated with useful info. I am hoping to have everything ready for the next board in the spring of 2021.

Is the selection process more forgiving for Ensign? Larger quota?
The quota is generally larger for Officer. This year’s Intelligence Specialist (IS) quota was 59 spots which is nearly double last years. I’ve had too evals and lots of qualifications that I thought they were looking for with the Chiefs board, but who knows.

@DENSFG @Porter

You both check the boxes, the important thing is to get a complete package put together, write a really strong motivational statement, and ace your interviews. In the IWC FY20 thread I posted exactly what boxes you need checked off in MEPS if you need a reference.

@DENSFG You lack a masters which isn't a show stopper but be sure to highlight supervisor leadership experience. You'll need to stand out among those with a masters during the rack and stack.

I saw the checklist and appreciate the information. Knowing that I lack the formal education many candidates have, I intended to explain some of the leadership roles I have had over the years overseeing joint task force operations. I’d think this shows leadership within one’s own agency, as well, as the capability to work well with others. I realize that I am at a disadvantage in regards to my resume and am always blown away by some of the work experience/education levels I see here. Thank you for the additional info.

Don't let it intimidate you, you have a stellar looking package. Just hit the right points and above all else make sure the whole package is complete. I'm a lowely undergrad as well and was picked up first round. I made sure my package was complete and kept in close contact with my OR. I made sure if he needed a document signed and scanned it was done within the hour. It kept me fresh on his mind.

In my motivational statement I spoke to how as an enlisted Airmen I always rose to the occasion and assumed leadership. It helped I got awards to back it up.

On the interviews I made sure to highlight that as a reserve officer I fully expected to do work outside drill weekends, would be expected to deploy, and would transition from being the go-to performer to the go-to-mentor. These are leadership roles were applying for.
