Ahhh, modems.

I found out about the true internet in 1992 at 2:00AM in a computer lab working on a Vax computer in grad school. I was tired of staring at my own screen, and looked over at the young Chinese lad next to me to see what sort of cool engineering simulation he was running.

He was browsing posts in what was known as a Gopher window (pre-WWW) and they were all of the ilk, “couple looking for young Asian man to enjoy companionship.”

I was enlightened.

Before I got there, because I registered to the new forum in early '03 as a MIDN 1/c . . . I'd seen the blog, came back to see what was new one day, and went "wow, now it's a forum!" And there was already a pool of JOs either on their way to P-Cola or already there.
