This is a conflict that goes back thousands of years (historians generally agree on 5000 years as a stake in the sand in).
Lolwut? The Muslim faith didn't even exist before the 600s AD, and they didn't conquer Jerusalem until 637 or 638. Israel didn't exist until 1948, Zionism wasn't a thing until the 19th century, and it was under the British and the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine that the Arab/Zionist shenanigans really kicked off, after the Balfour Declaration of 1917.

So all this dates back not 5,000 years, but to WWI and the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Just because religious wars have been going on in the Middle East for over 5,000 years does not make them all related.

For starters, it’s not the simple “offer of peace” from Israel that you seem to think. Israel, under Benjamin Netanyahu, fomented a two-party politic in Palestine, propping up Hamas against the more moderate Palestinian Authority. This kept people divided and repressed. There is also ample evidence of Israel funneling hundreds of millions of dollars through Qatar to- again- prop up Hamas in an attempt to keep Palestine divided. To say nothing of Israel intentionally creating an intelligence blind-spot for itself in the process and having provided some of the funding that is now being used against itself.
Remember though that offers of peace were made before Netanyahu.
My advice is to read more, and write less. Your words will mean more that way.

Eh, there’s definitely some pretty direct parallels to today’s going back to at least the early Roman Empire, independent of the Islamic components. The name Palestine comes from a bunch of different sources but a big component was as a literal Roman province (Syria Palaestina) after the latter crushed the various Jewish revolts in the first century AD.

I thought it was a long time as well. I fat fingered 5, should have been 4.

The first Siege of Jerusalem seems to have some evidence that it occurred sometime between 1400 and 1000 BC. Whether those biblical scholars, archeologists, and historians are right or wrong I don't know.

Taking the biblical folks out of the picture, the first siege occurs during the Syro-Ephraimite War in 736-732 BC. Then there were the Babylonians, the Romans, the list goes on.

While the Brits certainly caused this latest flame up, fighting over this part of the world has been going on for pretty much the entirety of recorded existence.

You're very much generalizing a broader pattern of conflict in the region as being integral to the present conflict.

"This part of the world has been fought over for 4000 years" ≠ "Israel and Palestinians have been fighting for 4000 years".

Yeah, that's like saying "various Native American tribes were skirmishing in pre-Columbian North America, and we can trace that to the rioting after George Floyd was murdered."

Well Ford's inevitable deployment-extension surf and turf has apparently made /r/shittyfoodporn on Reddit.

I don't have any means at my disposal to do so, but I still feel like I'm missing a golden opportunity to bust Big XO's balls, seeing as how once upon a time I was a nugget JO and he was a damn dirty hinge in my squadron. ?
Can't view the link because reddit is obviously a no-go on the ship but I imagine it's consistent with most posts in the subreddit.

As much as I hate to give the ship any credit, the Ford has actually been serving surf & turf every Sunday for like 2 months now, so my guess is that OP is taking advantage of the "extension surf & turf" stereotype.

As an aside, our squadron rule is: if there is surf & turf, you will surf and you will turf.

What’s the general QOL on GRF these days? I was a plankowner and took her to sea the first 1/2 dozen times. I hear she’s a veritable cruise ship compared to those days.

I spent a fair amount of time on the aft sponson standing the mail buoy watch, thinking about how I could potentially surf the ship's wake for miles and miles and miles.

It honestly didn’t look any different from the normal mediocre boat surf and turf we’ve all had, it just entertained me that someone was trying to make that go viral for fake internet points. Like . . . it’s boat food, not the Ritz.
