Cmon.......the helicopter was flying, no love for a highly motivated scarf wearing GIB?Again, helicopter. And it especially doesn't count if you kill it with a bomb.

Live with it…the Air Force has long called many aircraft "fighters" that the Navy and Marine Corps didn't/don't/wouldn't...

A-6's carried sidewinders, but that didn't make them Fighters. So the AF should have changed the A-10's designator to F/A-10? Don't even get me started on the F-16 lawn darts....Well... maybe.
But keep in mind that during the first Gulf War, an A-10 pilot from my base got an air-to-air kill, as did another A-10 from the NOLA Guard unit.
Don't know if those 2 kills make it a "fighter",...
...but keep in mind that the F-16's didn't a single kill. Is the F-16 a "fighter"?

Yes, but the word Fighter starts with an I in Hebrew...Don't the 47 or so Israeli F-16 kills count?
I guess I should have said it earlier: I think the A-10 is a kick ass platform but in a fight against a 4th gen fighter it doesn't stand a chance; just like a tank or troops in the open have no chance against the A-10.
The A-10 would have no chance against an AIM-120...A-10 would have the advantage in a gun fight.Ah but if the '10 can lure the fighter into a low and slow turning fight...

Don't underestimate the A-10. Been working with those dudes a lot lately and while not a 'fighter', they have good capabilities.
Don't get me wrong, they're a badass platform, but lets be realistic about airframes. 9 times out of 10, your Hornet/Rhino/Viper/Eagle/Raptor wins this one.
