Dolby is sound…I believe you pretty much always get Dolby sound with IMAX visuals. But I could be wrong.

this Friday 5/13 is Top Gun day in selected theatres - they are showing the original film on the big screen.

i'm going to see the new one with the soon-to-be-SNA right after USNA Commissioning on the 27th, should be fun

I heard an anecdote… perhaps urban legend… from several years ago. There was an incident where a Marine CH-53 out of Miramar made a precautionary landing on the beach somewhere in SOCAL. Coincidentally, Kenny Loggins actual wandered by shortly thereafter, and rendered an impromptu a cappella version of Danger Zone for the slightly embarrassed aircrew. If that story is true, it’s fucking awesome.

One of the pilots pictured briefly here was one of my T-6 instructors in Corpus. Fucking solid guy and instructor. I remember him telling me about the beach landing, but he somehow failed to mention Kenny Loggins???

I once saw the DVD commentary, and apparently someone on the crew was quoted while filming that scene saying something like “you realize we’re basically shooting porn right now?” ?
