there were a few zsu- 23-4's further west in the highgound. don't remember much concern about them though, the grunts didn't go up there, recon did but they rarely engaged and didn't need much air support. using the recon supplied data, i did run several a-6 beacon bombing strikes in the highlands which were fairly effective (bou coup secondries). unfortunately, i had to split my time betweeen the danang area and working with the army guys up at ripcord. the usaf 0v-10's were dedicated but you can't beat a basic school trained aviator in the mud with the grunts, (WAY more situational awareness) there was enough nva around ripcord (with armor) to keep 3 facs and 2 fo's working overtime.
strapping on a phantom has always been cool but i gotta tell ya. there ain't nothing more fun than being a FAC
