Good looking Brazilian Scooter....

Looks like he's got a 'winder on the rail !!

While we're talking A-4s, I guess the introduction of the A-7 made it superflous, but suppose the Navy had "biggie-sized" the A-4 as it did the Hornet w/ the Super Hornet. We could have ended up w/ a trans-sonic Skyhawk (w/ folding wings) with a radar that would have made it a mean air-to-mud and air-to-air machine that was perfect for the VN conflict. Oh well. I love the what-could-have-been stuff.

MacD had designed a "Super Skyhawk" (much like the one you describe above) that was in competition with LTV's A-7 Corsair II. Word in my community was that the Navy preferred the "upsized" A-4, but Pres. Johnson & LTV were both from Texas....sooooo......!:(

Right on!

The Skyhawk is my favorite early design aircraft not a fighter pilots dream but this small aircraft could really get down in the weeds, for its small price tag it became a rugged reliable ground pounder and still some flying today although NZ has mothballed theirs.

The New Zealand Scooters may be getting another chance to come to US.

Well, it was a dream come true for Curt "Potsie" Francis, former USN Tomcat driver and LSO. He got the nod to be the head LSO for the Brazilians.

If we pool our money, especially A4's money, maybe we could do it. Then we could buy an old house-trailer and re-locate it on one of those old WWII Army Air Corps abandoned airfields in southern Arizona and operate out of there. We could call it the "Old Guys Flying Circus and Home for Derelict Former Scooter Drivers, Mechs, Ordies, & Maintainers". Yeah, it could happen.

Talking about bringing A-4's back to the US....on 18MAR94 when Dusty and I flew A-4M bunos. 159490 and 159788 from NAS Dallas to the Boneyard, by the time we got done filling out the paperwork, the boneyard guys already had the planes pulled into the hangar and were stripping the war-related items off. The a/c had already been sold to another country (don't remember which one). As was common back in the day, we had orders in hand to deliver the planes, with direction to find our own way back. A friend of mine was the OinC of the Andrews outfit that had just received their new Gulfstreams. I had called him a few days earlier and asked if he needed to get any training done in their new planes, to which he replied, "Sure do." I explained our situation and he sent a Gulfstream to ferry us, I mean get required training, from Davis Monthan to Dallas. By the time we got over to base ops, the Gulfstream was taxxiing up and the Air Force was scrambling to roll out the red carpet, convinced some Admiral was making an unannounced stop. The guys in the Gulfstream opened the door and we strolled out over the red carpet in our dirty flight suits, flight gear stuffed in our greasy parachute bags, waved at the Colonel patiently waiting for a code whatever to de-plane, boarded, and left. It pays to know the right people. This is Dusty and me just before we handed over the keys to the Boneyard.

Got just the place, not too far from the NEX in Yuma, close to "World Famous Date Shakes", and it's being developed (notice the circles just northwest of the field.). :D

We drove out there one day back in '05 just for something to do. The development was a joke but I guess some folks were putting money into it.

I was surprised that the field showed up so well on Google Earth because from the road you can't see it.
