Having encountered a few feral hogs/boars while deer-hunting in Texas, I can tell you that it gives new meaning to the phrase "Bring enough gun." The last thing you want to do is shoot one of these dudes w/ a 100gr .243 or whatever. It just pisses them off and they start looking for something to ruin - usually you. Start w/ a 30-06 and go up from there.

Nah, shot a 265 lb one last year with a .257 Roberts and a 110 Accubond. Helped that it was at about 15 yards and between his eyes though. :D Look at me wrong he did.

Heading down to TN this weekend to pig hunt with some buddies and taking the same rifle. Won't kill one that size again. He provided hours of chewing enjoyment and that was on just the first bite. Tried everything, crock pot, pressure cooker, smoker. Pig this year will be like one I killed in SC a few years ago, 100 lbs max and every bit of it was good.

Proposed WA state 'assault weapons' ban ...

If any of you-all are in WA ... and have the time & the means & the inclination ... I would encourage you to show up at the state capitol on JAN 26 to voice your opposition to SB 6396 ... to quote from the Washington Arms Collectors website/email list:

A public hearing will be conducted on SB 6396, the so-called ?assault weapon? ban bill on Tuesday, 26 January. The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. in Senate Hearing Room ?1? in the John A. Cherberg Senate Office Building on the Capitol Campus in Olympia.

If passed ... this bill would bring California-style gun control (and then some) to the formerly great and 'independent' Northwest. See you there ... :)

Further info from the Website:

It is imperative that as many individuals as possible attend the hearing and sign in in opposition to the bill. A sign-in sheet will be available at a side table just inside the hearing room (or if the crowd is large enough, the sign-in sheet may be outside the room in the corridor). Sign in with your name, address and a position on the bill: ?con.? There is a place on the sign-in sheet to indicate whether or not you would like to testify. Time is limited, so I anticipate only a few individuals will be called upon on both sides of the issue. Who gets to testify and who does not is solely up to the committee chair (Senator Adam Kline, sponsor of the bill).

Hints on testimony: public input is limited to three minutes or less. Begin by stating your name and where you are from. Personal attacks on the motives of bill supporters are not allowed. If a point has already been made, do not repeat it. As with a letter to the editor, short, concise points are best. While reference to ?cold, dead fingers? may be dramatic, this is NOT a drama. Courtesy is a virtue!

Wish I could join you ... I'll be there in spirit. It's so sad to see my home state continue down a road full of bullshit liberal policies. Not only have they tried their best to push out every successful corporation that called WA home, it seems they are slowly picking away at those special things that make the Northwest what it is. They try their best to alienate anyone who lives outside of the Olympia-Tacoma-Seattle area. If they ever left their idealistic world surrounded by patchouli covered losers, they might notice that most of the state is full of hard working people who value their freedom and respect the freedom of their neighbors.

The wheat farmer in the Palouse, for example, will be affected by this bullshit, and more than likely won't have a chance to drive to Olympia to speak his mind. The dirty, long haired kid with a Che t-shirt (fucking walking, talking contradiction...) Evergreen State student will be there, screaming about something he doesn't know shit about.

I hope a million of you guys make it to the public hearing. Although the truth, common sense and Constitutional rights are usually far from the minds of the elected officials, maybe you guys can open some eyes.

Any farmers out there in the Palouse who decide to drive over, I'll foot half the gas bill. ;)

Thankfully it looks unlikely to get out of committee. Let's hope that's where it deservedly dies.

If I had to pick a retirement spot today, it'd be to split time between here and the Poconos. But at least PA's Democrats have a large contingent of Blue Dogs. I'm in Rep Kanjorski's district, and aside from the whole cut-and-run-on Iraq thing, he's really not too bad.

Is it possible that Idaho might soon be cooler than Washington??

Too bad this same shit is par for the course down in Oregon. I have actually bragged to people in the past about how great the Pacific NW is because of the individual freedoms enjoyed by citizens there...

Exactly. I suspect many of the folks in Eastern Wa wish they could secede and join Idaho.

On the AWB it's shear folly for libs to think they can pass a law like this any more. The bans like CA's are on their way out and will all get challenged before long either under Heller or this years supreme case on 2nd amendment incorporation. As A-4's noted we need to be aware of it and act on it when we do.

On the bright side though A4s, unlike our california state constitution, you have this in yours:

SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

So even if this law were to pass, you could overturn it via the courts. Even better, if things go as predicted with McDonald vs. Chicago, 2A must be incorporated by the states.

Well, that little hurdle didn't prevent the Dems from passing the national assault weapons ban in the 90s. So, while SCOTUS does seem marginally more likely to overturn legislation which restricts gun ownership, don't think that just because certain verbiage appears in any State's constitution, that local legislators can't pass a bill which restricts gun owners.

At any rate, while it's good to be vigilant for "movements" such as these, considering the demogrqaphic make-up of WA (being largely rural and agricultural), I think our guns will likely be safe from the more urban-minded minority in Olympia.

All true except for one thing: while the political 'power' is concentrated along the I-5 corridor, from Bejing-Bellingham on the north through Everett to SEA to Tacoma to Olympia (and mebbe Grays Harbor) on the south, it keeps spreading & creeping into other, nominally more 'conservative' districts. Of late -- the 'antis' and the latte-lappin' liberals have been having more sway and more say. It's numbers -- not square miles, and the 'antis' have the overall numbers, statewide. What saves us from becoming the second CA is that some of the Dem-majority legislators are from E and SW WA and represent 'old Democrat' voting constituencies. They, along w/a diminishing number or Reps/conservatives don't go along w/ the left-wing viewpoints of the Democrats who are from the W side of the state/Puget Sound basin and who by and large control committees and legislative agendas. Numbers overall: that's why a woman who has NO life outside of politics such as the current WA Governor CAN be elected Governor of what should be the 'best' state in the Nation, and yet she has little political impact and/or credibility statewide. (I went to college w/her -- I 'know' her -- not in the biblical sense, to be sure ...:)).

Numbers: that's why WA has Senators like Patty Murray (I was her 'escort' during NUW-BRAC) and Maria Cantwell (100% anti-gun/anti-2nd voting record, BUT: she use to hang out @ Washington Arms Collectors gun shows looking for $$$$$ and support prior to losing a run at the state house -- that's where I met her) ...
or perhaps Jim McDermott ??? Numbers & SEA: you'd have to be to the left of Fidel Castro to defeat him...

The NUW area state senator is a virulent anti-gunner ... she used to claim 'her brothers were in the NRA' as a default-defense for anything 'gun related', but after she got more solidified in her Senate position, she dropped the subterfuge and is a reliable anti-2nd vote. She/I went to war over a couple of issues @ 15 years ago ... she called me at home -- and threatened a libel suit against me for writing a letter to the editor re: her un-ladylike behavior (cursing, etc.) at a public meeting @ Camano Is many, many moons ago ... :)
... I put her on the speakerphone and announced it as TW ®, then Trophy Girlfriend ® was present (I suspect due to 'noise' that she had a staffer listening on her end) ... and guess what??? The conversation ENDED @ 30 seconds later and I've never heard a word from her lawyers ... but I digress ...

It's not about geography ... its about demographics ... it's about numbers ... and ever since the CA beautiful people, the NYC and Jersey white-trash, the Microsoft 3rd-world types and the New England elites moved here over the past 30 years ... the 'normal' people have lost control and the lefties now call the agenda in Olympia.

If this bill 'disappears'/gets moved to the back burner ... the ONLY reason it will not move out of committee is because of the perceived direction that the political winds are blowing ... TODAY ... and the 'heads-up' that Liberals/Lefties/Democrats all over the country got last week in Massachusetts. Ever since 1994, the left has learned that it doesn't pay to bringup anti-gun bills during an election year. We shall see what happens ... but make no mistake -- t
his proposed bill is dangerous. It was sponsored by some of the most left-wing pols in/around the area who are dancing in the blood of dead cops to blow smoke & push their goals ... and the Democrats do have a super-majority in the Senate/House and an anti-gun Governor (she has very unsatisfactory 'thick' ankles, too, BTW ... :)) ... so, while you're 'right' and it probably will NOT pass ... this time ... I can remember another time when the east side was solid Republican/conservative prior to it becoming Microsoft Inc, when So Whidbey was a sleepy bedroom community of Boeing-Everett, when the ferry was a small open-top boat (because there wasn't any traffic during the week -- not because the bottoms have fallen out of the larger boats due to DOT bureaucratic mismanagement), when there was never a wait for a traffic light in Oak Harbor, when Seattle was arguably the best city on the west coast ... and I can remember when I could smoke a good cigar on the deck @ Chandler's Cove ... but no more. People who like power & control have taken that away. For me ... I'll keep my powder dry ...

See any of you-all in Olympia tomorrow -- dawn patrol; an early get-up for sure -- I'll be the one wearing the green sport coat, rubber chicken feet, and clown hair/makeup ...

I was born in that state; just glad I did not go back there to live. I wrote Patty M. a letter contesting some things during the Clinton saga, pretty much summed it up for me. Totally not my style or anything I want for my kids.
