Dude this is an awesome idea. I grew up in the Texas hill country, and the hogs are horrible. I'm glad someone finally has the balls and brains to do something about it.
I'm getting teary eyed right now. God I can't wait to get back to Texas

It isn't hard or very costly to get $ 1 million in additional coverage through your homeowners policy. It is just an umbrella rider. These days, if you do own a home and can get a decent deal it is smart to do so if you fly GA aircraft, ride or drive off road, have a business in your home, hold regular parties, have a pool, and yes, even guns. I don't know how much they would clip you for if you don't own a home. That said, yes this is an anti gun pro plaintiff's lawyer measure and should not be required. The auto analogy is right on. It is my personal decision to have the extra coverage. To answer the question about being sued for willfully shooting someone in your home, you bet you can. In a few states there are certain provisions that make it much less likely if it is on your property. But most states you will be sued. If you acted criminally, had no justification for shooting, no insurance will pay. So it doesn't matter that criminals will not have the insurance, the insurance company would not pay anyway. A lawsuit will also follow if a kid or guest in your home accidentally shoots themselves. All this will do is make gun ownership more expensive, and restrictive, and enrich plaintiff lawyers who will now have a $1 million possible pay out rather then homeowners policy limits of say, $220,000.
Having encountered a few feral hogs/boars while deer-hunting in Texas, I can tell you that it gives new meaning to the phrase "Bring enough gun." The last thing you want to do is shoot one of these dudes w/ a 100gr .243 or whatever. It just pisses them off and they start looking for something to ruin - usually you. Start w/ a 30-06 and go up from there.

I know some people who go "deer-spotting" with helicopters on their land every year. They are not shooting them, just counting and checking out the quality of the deer. Now if they just happen to go back to the same spot that a big ass 12 point was seen..well....that's their call.
This August/September I will be flying for a guy who is going to do some of that "spotting". I always go down to Austin for the Longhorn's season opener, and my services has been "contracted" for the weekend prior.

The best you could say about a .22 rimfire is that it might be so little gun that it doesn't piss him off. Literally, if the round doesn't ricochet off his hide, it probably would do so off their incredibly hard heads.
