^^^^ Hmmm...good point. Of all the junk on my Citizen Skyhawk, the one I use consistently is the GMT.

This one time at band camp...
For OCS what you REALLY need is a watch with a good alarm. When I checked in at OCS they made me put my alarm clock in my car, therefore I had no alarm clock and thank god I bought a watch with 5 alarms...they all came in handy.

You won't be able to wear a watch at OCS until you're a candi-o or if you're the section leader, president or VP of your class, that's if your CDI allows that, but most do.

I would have grandma wait and buy you a nice watch after you graduate OCS...any of the ones above are GREAT. I own a Citizen Nighthawk that I received as a graduation gift. I don't wear it when I fly, but then again I'm in the very early stage of flight school.

The Timex Ironman Triathalon was perfect for OCS. Best of luck to you!

Ordered one (non-chrono) and returned it, I felt the luminescent paint hour markers looked exceptionally cheesy, as did the wave background which I had expected to look significantly better than it did. My opinion, there are much better looking watches in that price range. Since quite a few people seem to have it, I might be in the minority of that opinion.

I have commented on Citizen before, I have had nothing but problems with the pins coming out of the band. Citizen (to their credit) replaced the band for free, with a completely new one. The problem, the new band does the same thing (and a lot of them are near the watch and are of the not-removable pin type).

For flying, get something digital, with two time zones (lets see Zulu time is...??). Otherwise, there are a myriad of great watches to be had, and checking previous watch threads can give you ideas. Or walk in to your local Tourneau and see what interests you (since you are the one that gets to wear it everyday); if you ask they often will give you a really good deal too. Start with the usual suspects of Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Tag Heuer, etc.

I brought a Sunnto to OCS and quickly ran and bought a 30$ G-SHOCK at Walmart a few days after candio-land b/c it was all I needed and I was beating up the other.

On a side note, I just got back from a cruise and if you're planning on going on one anytime soon and are thinking of picking up a timepiece you may want to wait until you get to the boat (the nicer variety with casinos). We were on Carnival and the Citizens were literally 40-50% off and there was no duty or tax obviously. My wife picked up a nice eco-drive for cheap and if I weren't such a tight wad I would have too. They also had a ton of other brands at great prices. Oh, booze on the boat is cheap too.
