In a Hornet yes, in a glider... I've never been in a situation where I thought "gee, I'd really need a motor here" (I've been low and thought that it would be nice to have, but not needed) just like I've never been in a sailboat and thought the same. It's a different mindset. There are sailplane pilots who have been in accidents who might agree with you. But those accidents happened not because they needed a motor; those accidents happened because they painted themselves into a corner in which they couldn't get out of.
