Blue Angels/T-Birds grounded, er, I mean, season cancelled.

I bet it will put Snort out of business.

Snort is flying with the Black Diamond Jet Team. They were making an impact on the air show scene the last couple of years until they announced they were going to concentrate on government contract work. All the the BDJT guys are part of Draken International (http://drakenintl.com/) which does the contract work. Not sure how the sequestration is impacting their contract work but they are flying at Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland this week as the headliner and announced that they are going to be at the Lauderdale show as well. I'm guessing the air show biz will be more profitable for them this year than the contract work.

Yeah I bet CAPT "Snort" and Co will be just fine. Haven't heard any more about the contract since he told me about it last year at the NTU show, but it sounded cool to say the least. After all, on the airshow circuit, they could well be some of the few jets and the only jet team for some time. If the DoN doesn't pony up, I can imagine that they could find a demo use for some of the A-4's and MIG-21's in the meantime.

Additions to the cancelled list from today - Naval Base Ventura County Air Show, NAS Jax and Rhode Island National Guard Open House. Also don't know if the Air Show part of Fleet Week in San Fran was on the list I posted but that too has been cancelled.

Stand by for Miramar's cancel in 3,... 2,... 1,...

Anyone who uses the 805 will be grateful. What a traffic nightmare that thing was....every time. I remember it taking almost an hour to get from the overpass prior to the Miramar Rd exit (as in like 1/2 mile prior), to the intersection.

When the average civilian hears that pilots in gun squadrons don't have money to fly or train they don't care. But when they can't take little Johnny to see the Blues, they call their useless congressman and tell him to do his job....the Navy is making a point.
My wife, a pharmacist here at one of the hospitals in Pensacola, was listening to a couple of our pretty good friends that work with her complain that the Pensacola Beach show was going to be cancelled. She said she had a hard time listen to people with doctorates discuss something so passionately that they had no real knowledge of. She's caught on that only flying 11 hours a month isn't particularly conducive to the type of flying that the Blues do and that they can't just get together on a random Saturday and put on a show. The average civilian, hell even the not so average ones, have no clue when it comes to how Naval Aviation works or why if you don't have any money you can't fly the loud, fast jets.

Pretty sure some ofthe fleet weeks themselves are CNC too.

Yes, according to an article I can no longer find, one of those cancelled was Seafair, the USN said no ships will be going this year. If there isn't enough money to move ships from Everett to Seattle I wonder if they will have money to send ships from San Diego to San Francisco.

As great a City and military friendly as it once was, San Francisco no longer deserves any military display of any kind. I was in a squadron home-ported in Moffett/Alameda for 4 JO years in the late '50s/early '60s'... it was heaven. Today, the 'City' is still beautiful, but the populace have lost their collective minds!:(

Been to fleet week San Fran twice. They fucking loved us there. It's no New York, but you can count on free drinks and a hearty reception. They're gonna be pissed about no airshow.

At some bars- Yes. The greater Bay Area is extremely liberal as compared to what it was in the 50's and 60's. I grew up there and witnessed the changes. In fact the folks that "loved you" and bought you drinks are by far the minority. Of the "liberal/progressives" that bought you drinks- those are likely the ones that publicly support the MIL but among their political friends privately- they scorn the MIL for only hiring white trash and minorities that can't get jobs in our MIL Industrial Complex/greedy corporate society, etc.. I've been a member of both parties at different times of my life and witnessed this phenomena in SF and Marin many times.

I too enjoy the Bay Area folks that truly understand why we have our freedoms and appreciate those that contribute to that ongoing sacrifice but don't kid your self. They are far more bay area residents that despise the MIL and everything that it represents.

The sequestration stuff is political posturing. I hope it ends sooner than later. The Bay Area always makes for great Blue Angel photographic opportunities. Although with the lack of flight hours, I hope they don't attempt the formations with 50 foot wing tip to canopy separation.
