The Neverending Callsign thread (Best/Worst/Funniest and where they came from)

Mine: SUDS - Shut Up Dumb Shit. I was the FNG that talked (and probably still do) waaaay too much. Skipper at the time started calling me Ike. At some point, I was mouthing off during a game of call of duty, and one of the other JO's says to me "Dude, shut up dumb shit!" And it stuck.

Had another dude in the squadron whose callsign was Skanky just because we wanted to screw with his wife's head after a Fallon det. Like "Why do you call him Skanky?" "Aww that Skanky... What happens in Fallon stays in Fallon" type thing. After the Romosexual scandal, we changed it to Roomba - you know, that little robot that wanders aimlessly around the room sucking. Its more fitting.

And then there was Scooter - who earned it by loosing control of a Vespa and trying to make friends with a lava rock wall in the Azores.

I'm with NAVAIR. I'm here to help you.
Had a guy in HSL-32 years ago who's first name was Burbank. For those lacking the twisted imagination, his call sign was Spermbank.

Officer Spouses Club

Ah...yes...dating myself. It would be gender-neutral now, I suppose.

Sorry, R1, being gender-neutral is not enough anymore.

"Knives" morphed into "Spouses" a few years back, which worked for a bit. However, since DOMA doesn't recognize Adam and Steve, I guess we need to ix-nay "Spouses" and perhaps make it "Spouses and Partners."*

I'm confident there's a highly-paid DoD-directed planning cell working on it right now.

Not always. When I left active duty (and before I joined the reserves, aka a honest-by-god civilian), I wanted to be the best, most supportive spouse I could be. I looked into participating in the Spouses club at my wife's command in Maryland... Until I found out that at Fort Meade (the base has a spouses club, the commands do not) it was the "Officer Wives Club". At a social event, I asked a woman who was involved in the club why it wasn't a spouses club and she responded that they voted on it - and decided to keep it the same for "historical reasons". I responded that in that case, there shouldn't be women in the military for "historical reasons".

I was pissed, so get a bunch of the other husbands and jokingly started a "husbands club". Wasn't exactly quiet about the fact that I was pissed (and that other husbands weren't exactly happy either). A couple of weeks ago we were driving around Ft Meade and saw a sign that said OSC something... I was so accustomed to seeing OWC, I remarked "WTF is that?" PSW's response? "OH, you didn't know?"

Apparently, my complaints made their way through the grapevine all the way up to the base commander. And he agreed with me - and ordered the wives club to change their name.

I never joined, but I still won!

Searched the dark recesses of my brain on some other C/S from my squadron (VA-145 Swordsmen)

Hog - "Wild Bill" was the "official" C/S maker in the squadron. This was his name for a guy who's last name was Terborg. So the poor pilot asks "Why Hog?" Well Wild Bill says, Terborg reminds me of a boor, and a boor is a pig and a pig is a hog! Therefore I christen you Hog!
OTR - On the Rag (the guy was just vicious before he got his first cup of cofffee)
Preacher - the pilot was raging on about something and someone said "you're preaching to the choir"
Dyke - he was of dutch decent
Royds - He got such a bad case of hemorrhoids during CQ that he had to see the doc. Just had to fit that into a C/S somehow
RAT - messed up and deployed the Ram Air Turbine on approach. Name stuck to him forever

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course...

Remember reading about a Lt.Cmdr with VAQ-136 who got tagged with "Quijibo".
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=quijibo
I had lunch with said Quijibo two weeks ago - still a balding, middle-aged North American male. We both started at the same civilian organization 18 years ago within the same week, and have worked there ever since. His advice to me, when I asked him about being a spy in a Prowler squadron, was "Be sure you can drink a lot!" Good dude.

Was once visiting an RAF squadron and saw a "2-Bit" Hoare on up on the board.

Circa 2007 there was a guy at -125 with that same name, didn't know him personally but was an exchange pilot of some flavor. As it appeared, FLT "2-bit" Hoare, on the side of a legacy hornet.

Believe the purge on non-PC callsigns didn't really heat up until the "Romo'sBi**hGate" scandal a year or two ago.

As I recall that particular visit was in 2005. It was a Tornado squadron out of RAF Marham. Could be the same guy. Never met him, just saw the name and knew I'd never forget it.
