My guess is that by being in the US Military, there is a MOUNTAINOUS papertrail to prove your qualifications as a military pilot and records of your flight time.

Air Force... yes.

Navy and Marines.... NO. We are still in the dark ages when it comes to paperwork.

There's always a mountainous paper trail, but it doesn't matter if you don't have that one stupid piece of paper that PSD insists it needs to see.

Kafka would be proud.

I have "Unrestricted Naval Aviator #26873" and I winged out of the HTs on 31JAN03.

Never seen that number anywhere else.

Don't have my card/certificates anymore (ex burnt them out of spite)

For MB and Squorch2...

NHA keeps those numbers too...As does NHHS I believe...

So, just got winged yesterday, and in my big packet of certificates there was a wallet sized card certifying that I am a NAVAL AVIATOR signed by CNATRA. Anyone have an idea what this is? Am I supposed to carry this? My ticket for free drinks and getting out of speeding violations???

Congrats...

I keep mine with my FAA license...but never "needed" it.

Can any of you guys post a photo of what this card looks like? I'm curious.
In the USAF, get a nice, diploma-looking document (suitable for framing!) stating we are now rated pilots, but no card to accompany it.

DON'T do it! Next you know, Skeeter (or the Airshow Wannabe) will have grabbed it and photoshopped themselves onto it!

Have you actually been busted for that?

No, I was pretty much kidding. But I will say that in my airline life, the USAF heavy guys and P-3 guys tend to have a Nutty when you are 251 or above when going through 10K. I guess they think that FAA ATC has a repeater of your KIAS tape on their scope. My experience is not only does ATC not care, they don't even know. (They used to see GS only, although now I think they may get a crude TAS...)

My card doesn't have my NA#. Does someone have a link to get it or info on how to obtain it?

Thanks in advance...

My CNAT Driver's License does not have a NA#, just my rank, name, and designation date.

My NA# appears in three places in my house: On the back of my Wings; on the back of my motivated Battle Phrog mug ("No Hooks Needed" :)); and a card (in the "passport" book, along with the CNAT card) that states,

"HELICOPTER TRAINING SQUADRON XXXX
THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT
1STLT [KBayDog] UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
IS A QUALIFIED HELICOPTER PILOT
[Date] [NA Number "42"]
[CO's signature]"

It is neat to know my NA number, however, "I AM NOT A NUMBER! I AM A FREE MAN!" :D

Yeah, I got a card, a mug, and some crummy looking diploma thing that I never had any desire to frame. I think the stuff that actually matters are the entries into NATOPS jackets and the logbook. Never hurts to make copies of the stuff in your various jackets.

Huggy, we also get a "diploma" but that is too big to carry to the bar (for showing to the swinging American women).

Here is a scan of my card, I blurred my name and the teethmarks from my dog don't show much...Naval aviator card3.jpg

It comes in a handy black holder that looks like this:

I was an Air Traffic Controller until December 1st when I got picked up for the flying CWO program. The ATC scopes do get recorded (even the old Navy scopes) and the TAS is on there. They can calculate the distance a target has gone in an amount of time and be right on, I have seen it in incedent reports. I dont know about the FAA side, but Navy controllers generally like when the aircraft go fast unless they are given a speed restriction for sequence, and I have never known a controller to snitch on any pilot in the 8 years I have controlled. sometimes a real boring day in the tower can perk up after seeing a F18 going TOO fast into the break.
