A little advice for .40 S&W's?

Most places that I have seen dont carry the P2000 (its usually an item the have to order) and if they do its not V3. Most people like the LEM trigger. I for the record do not.

I'm hoping the gun show this weekend in Pensacola will have a decent selection to take a look at. I know I've read here before that the gun shows around these parts suck, but they may at least have a few different variants/models to look at side by side.

Jay's II on Garden had a couple of SIG's in 9mm and .40 that were used but appeared to be in great shape about a week and a half ago... They were also a couple of hundred bucks off retail... I got a 229 .40 from there about 2 months ago and have loved it. The gun shows in Pensacola have been a bit on the pricey side lately, but I'm sure there are deals to be had there.

If they are all fantastic guns then it shouldn't matter too much which one I pick up.

Very true. For me it wasn't precise science, I picked the one that felt the best and had the more comfortable trigger pull.

Go w/ the Sig

I have a Sig 229 in .40 S&W, and I love it. You can change it to .357 Sig (another awesome round) by simply changing out the barrel, I like its ergonomics, and in my opinion it has a smoother stock trigger than the HK. I'm a big fan of the Sig's decock lever, too.

If you have bigger hands (I don't), though, you might want to go with the H&K. I've shot my buddie's USP 40 before and it seems a little bulky for a mid-size auto.

I own a Sig P226R in .40 S&W. Not a 229, but I can definately attest to Sig's worthiness. Great gun! Will buy from them in the future.

Do you have to change any springs? The .357 Sig is a lot hotter than a .40, so I'd be curious to know if the .40 spring can handle it?

I've enjoyed my Taurus PT100 and never had any problems. I've also used a Glock 22 before and enjoyed that as well.

It will handle it reliably without any modification.

Main thing with the drop in barrel change is do not use it for self defence like that. Your just asking for trouble when you start to "modify" your guns should you ever find yourself in court (and you will) after a self defence shooting. A Jury is not your peers when it comes to guns, they are a massed group of individuals that are 1. pissed off to have to be there for your ass and 2. as a rule: incapable of empathy for your situation having never had to or contemplated being in a self defence scenario.

Good advice ... read & heed.

What does modifying your gun have to do with a self defense shooting?

Good point, I thought this applied more towards using your handloaded ammo for self defense. But you never can underestimate the stupidity of the average American.

Or the canniness of the average defense lawyer. According to Ayoob, they will claim that you modified your gun to have a "hair trigger" or handloaded "killer rounds" or somesuch because you were so caught up in a jerkoff "self-defense" fantasy that you were just jonesing to kill someone, and thus should be prosecuted . . .

Bingo.

Remember witnesses and experts answer questions that the attorneys have already established a favorable answer too. All a court room really is when your on the defence side is you trying to paint yourself as a good person while the other side tries to demonize you.

Ayoob is a squeeze (opinion) ... and I've taken two courses from him. I wouldn't take another, but each to his/her own. BUT ... his pre/post shooting and courtroom advice (books) is usually 4.0.
