Current NFO surplus...

Well, it is logical that we have too many NFOs. S-3s, Prowlers and tomcats have all fed/ are feeding into a much smaller (nfo wise) community. You would think that the powers that be would plan ahead as far as feeding the pipeline goes, but I would not be at all surprised to hear that we kept feeding too much into the sausage grinder. I have a lot of NFO friends who are having a tough time making department head. Bottom line, you are here, there are still NFO seats out there, and it is only yours to lose. Don't worry about the numbers.
Exactly the attitude I'm going in with. :icon_mi_6

What Flash was trying to get at was - change your friggin' bio. It says "NFO" as occupation, rather than "SNFO"
Wow, uptight much? :icon_roll I got the what seems to be 'official order' from the senior officer on the internets telling me to update my profile online, so I guess I'll go ahead and get that taken care of.

Class instructors for API have been hinting on getting well above 80% on all test. NO THEY HAVEN'T come out and told the NFOs to "get 94% (ok just putting a percentage in, don't flip) or higher, or your out", but the way they are telling us seems like a hint if you know what I mean. ( a boot to the wall to make a point, or saying it more than say um....6 times.
That is besides the point. Heres what I have heard.
(1) a friend of mine from OCS went to the CO. He has his PPL and doesn't need any waivers. The CO is sending him, and two other NFOs to get there SNA up chits this week and they have been offered SNA slots.
(2) for the last few weeks in the briefs on friday DAY 0. They have told all NFOs that if they graduate in the top 10%, and are medically qualified they can move over to SNA.
(3) word has been thrown around among STUDENTS about possibly raising the NSS requirements, BECAUSE the instructors keep bringing up the fact that, even if you get all 80% on your test; if the NSS requirements get raised your out.

LAST WORD --- a few weeks ago something like 5 people got pink slips for being 1 minute late to muster. THINK SOMBODY IS GETTING PISSED AND FINDING A WAY TO WEED SOME PEOPLE OUT!? I am NOT on the dirt-bag(s) side here, but when I was in A-pool (just 4 weeks ago) 1 minute was nothing for some of the {PLACE MEAN WORD HERE}.

Nice sarcasm ;) BTW, if you think for one second that the folks on this board do not or will not ever have an influence on your training and success in the fleet, you might want to reconsider. I'm just sayin' . . . .

I posted a very simple thread asking some fellow input mainly from fellow A-poolers about a very current and valid issue regarding our future training at NASC. What do I get? A bunch of people who're separated totally from the situation telling me, "Naw, just scuttlebutt, that's all!" and a PM from someone telling me to change my profile.

I mean... are you serious?

While I can understand your frustration, just be careful what you post on a publuc board that's all. And . . . . if you're truly interested in getting an accurate assessment of current NFO inventory projections, you are probably in the best place to get that info. Good luck to you!

What were you expecting when you post those kinds of questions here? I understand your intentions are good, but there's not much anyone here can do to confirm/deny or help with your scenario. If any policy changes are being made that effect you, NASC will disseminate them as appropriate. Until then, it's all speculation. Lots of bogus info gets posted here, especially from the Training Commands, so excuse us if we're a little spring-loaded to reject them when they're brought up.

Whomever is hassling the kid about NFO vs SNFO in his profile (I'm looking at you Flash) needs to get a life. The first time I ever even heard of SNFO was when I saw it on this site, and I certainly never referred to myself as such while in the TRACOMs. It's not worth getting all riled up about.

Yeah, I'm fairly new to the site, and I now understand that the nature of my post is a little too much to handle for most of the folks here. Looks like I'm switching to lurker mode. Lesson learned. :icon_tong

If for no other reason than to be a peacemaker here...

I understand where you are coming from. It can seem like some people here (myself included) can tend to jump all over someone for something trivial. Like anything however, this requires a little bit of thought on your part. Consider for a second, that unlike one of your buddies apartments, this is not a place that just A-Poolers frequent...and while your thread may have been directed at them...it was received by one of the closest things to a public wardroom that there is.

What does that mean? It means that there are CO's..hinges...mids...JO's...here. It is slice of military aviation...and a slice of life. You seem like you have a good attitude and some sense...so try to understand that there are always going to be differences of opinion and disagreements...and that in your future career as a human...you will have to find a way to deal with all of those people. Act honorably, treat others well and think before you speak and in the end, disagreements or not, you will earn respect.

Didn't mean to sound like your Dad there...but there are some here who don't get it...and I would hate to see anyone else go that way. Be safe, I hope your question was answered and good luck.

And one more time...that is a hillarious pic....I can't stop looking at it...

So, in an attempt to turn this thread away from the chest-beating alpha-male contest this has become...

I'd like to address the following post:

First of all, I got selected for an NFO during a period of time when there was a major need for aviators, both pilots and NFO's. The needs of the Navy are ever-changing (apparently).

You never know (no guarantees), but by the time you get commissioned, the needs of the Navy can have (and probably will have) changed.

Bottom line: don't sweat it. How are you going to commission? Just curious.

You're getting some good info here, even if it doesn't pertain to your original question.

So, in an attempt to turn this thread away from the chest-beating alpha-male contest this has become...

For better or worse, the site has turned into what is basically a ready room (as scoober mentioned), and if you keep beating your head against the wall w/ comments like the one quoted above, you'll just continue to get frustrated. And if you come into a real ward/ready room like that, game on. I only offer this as friendly advice and encourage you to continue to ask questions/search the site for whatever info you may find you need throughout your stay w/ the Navy. This place continues to be a great wealth of knowledge to me, even after 9 years.
