Your callsign isn't Wedge, is it?

Brett

Nope, but for someone who's looking at employment outside the USMC (and the wife has orders to HI), it would be nice to know if there is an NAS there (haven't ruled out switching over to the Navy).

And my call sign is "Stinky"

I wouldn't count on the -60S getting the minesweeping anytime soon. It should have already been fielded, and by the way that it stands, we should have the block 3 (CSAR/NSW block upgrade) long before any minesweeping gear.

60S OAMCM has slid to 2009 at the earliest. Block 3 has slid as well, but will almost definitely arrive before OAMCM happens.

Absolutely.

Both HM-14 and HM-15 are partly reserve components. It is different than your legacy TAR (now FTS) squadrons. There is a Reserve Department headed by a LCDR type FTS OIC and manned by FTS personnel. They manage all of the squadron FTS and SELRES (selected reserves) personnel. Also the OIC keeps track of the reserve dollars budgeted to them by COMNAVAIRESFOR. The reserve OIC is typically the No 3. in the command behind CO/XO.

Every 4th or 5th CO of an HM squadron is an FTS type, so there is command opportunity for HM FTS. The current CO of HM-15 is FTS.

As far as JO stuff, those guys/gals get picked up FTS after their first shore tour, then come to the FRS (if needed) for a CAT 3 syllabus and then report to the squadron as a LT. They get O4 there and basically do/fill in for a DH tour. Really the integration is seamless for the FTS. They deploy and do all the same things as the AD folks do. They just train the SELRES types in addition.

After their tour at the squadron, they either screen for OIC or not. If they do, they can come back as an OIC. If not, they go fly C-12s or do other cool things or go command reserve centers. It's really a good deal. I think and if it weren't for the bonus, a lot more people would do it. There is an FTS bonus, but it doesn't pay as much.

If you are looking into this as an opportunity, PM me as I know tons of folks and can lead you to the trough. No HM community experience required.

FTS is definitely on the radar (package is almost done). I guess I was speaking more about HM specifically, since it is it's own animal in the FTS world. I haven't put it on the package just because I'm not real excited about living in Corpus (after living in PNS for 3 years). Just looking at the operational side of HM and weighing it against location.

Appreciate the info.

No sweat. There's always Norfolk too, and much more to do locally than in either lower Alabama or CCTX area. High housing costs here, though.

Yeah, and Norfolk also has a 50% chance of being a duty station if I went HSC, as well. I just wish FTS helos weren't so East Coast heavy, especially in the more northern areas. I hear D.C. got something called "snow" the other day. Wild stuff.

Are there any reserve squadrons west coast?

HS-75 is at NAS JAX
HSL-60 is at NS Mayport but is Decom'ing, going to the HM model for reserves.

HSC-85 I think. The spawn of HCS-5 and HC-85.

I was under the impression that OAMCM was coming to an East Coast sqadron near you sooner than Block III (first block IIIs to the west coast sometime soon as already mentioned), but I've been out of the homeguard loop for awhile.
