As far as "real-world" experience you can always transfer you experience to get a right-seat slot in the airlines?

True, NFO "special crew" flight time does not equate to the pilot time required of professional pilot employment. The "real world experience" of being a NFO does count for something, however. Between a 1800 hour Prowler pilot and 1800 hour ECMO there is no contest. The NFO isn't qualified to be a pro pilot anywhere. You have to be able to fly the plane even as a copilot. Now if the 1800 hour ECMO also has 1500 hours of civilian pilot time with the requisite ratings, he will blow the civilian only pilot competition out of the water. The NFO flight experience will put him over the top. NFOs gain a great deal in airmanship not expereinced by any civilian only pilot. I know, cuz I have been there.
