Is that the saying about not criticizing people until you've walked a mile in their shoes, that way, you're a mile away and you have their shoes?

i know many cops also (best friends are cops, family members were cops)...and i've found one thing in common, the need for power. In reality many of my close cop friends have just come out and said it to me. the gun, the car, the law on your side, sounds like a power trip to me. I hate when i see all this crap on shows where cops are like "I do this job to help people..yadda yadda yadda." If you wanted to help people be a firefighter, be a missionary, not a cop. Its the power simple and true. Being a pilot, also gets fairly little pay in comparison to the work a higher paid person may do. If you're looking for power as a Naval Aviator you got the wrong job, being a junior officer for many years will make that clear to you. I dont hate cops, at least not all of them, but i do wish that we as the public had more power over them and i wish the laws were more on our side than theirs.

you hear that everyone? Don't become an aviator, leave the spots for me. You heard it from an SNA so it must be true.

On that same note, there are military officers (including naval aviators)who also get off on that power trip. You will see this as your career progresses. You will see ego's that could fill an aircraft hangar. You wouldn't believe some of the ego's and power trips in the E-2 community. Some, just like those cop types, were probably picked on as a kid and needed some sort of retribution. I'm not saying this goes for all cops or officers, but it exists on both sides, at least in my experience.

^ Are you a part of the E-2 community and thus have much more exerience with them or is there something about the community that sets them apart from others?

I'm part of the community. Flying a prop aircraft from the carrier sets them apart from others but that's about it. Some people will simply always overrationalize as to why their community is better than others and let it go to their head.
