Which Ride?

If it's just the software go to Ford SYNC website and download it onto a USB flashdrive.
I like that Ford Performance has tunes available for their EcoBoost engines that don't void the warranty. They're not free though. They're about $900, but that includes the device as well. I bought one for my little Ranger Tremor and it added about 40 hp to the 2.3 liter turbo and disabled the AutoStop feature. My mpg actually went up with the tune, BUT it requires 91+ octane gas now.

Reading all of this makes me think that leasing might be my next step. Why buy a car if the manufacturer is going to hit you with costly “updates?” For now, I’m set. My gently aging VW wagon is doing fine and I can afford to fix almost anything on my beat up truck.

This popped up on Youtube and I got a chuckle thinking about what an Airwarriors Cannonball would look like. Listen to that glorious Lamborghini V-12 sing…

Probably going to watch the movie this weekend. maybe The Gumball Rally too.

I fear it would start off as a Cannonball Run and end up as Convoy.

To bring it into the 21st century, I think it has to be E-vehicles, and you have to steal all of your electricity. From 120V outlet to 120V outlet.

Would encourage all of you to at least test drive a Tesla - if nothing else just for fun. The process to test drive is about as frictionless as it gets.

That said, the true innovation on EV is from China and I cannot wait until BYD, Geely, NIO, XPeng, etc enter the US market - which I believe will happen sooner than later. All of these companies have engineering and manufacturing talent trained by Apple over the last 10-15 years. This is the way forward. Chinese EVs hitting the US market will be a true quality of life bump for the average US consumer.

I was in Mexico City for a wedding last year, and it was BYDs as far as the eye could see. Every Uber we took was a BYD EV, and from a passenger perspective they were great.

Thanks Xi. Where do I mail my surrender flag?

I think there is a lot of stuff to overcome before they enter the market, but right now even a free trade advocate like myself would be hesitant to open us up to Chinese cars with the massive unfair advantages they have with the government backing them. That is on top of the information security and safety concerns that would have to be addressed.

I'm guessing the majority of these Chinese EVs will have final assembly here in the US - in proportions similar to Toyota mix us US/Japan today.

The majority of US Government professional level employees have gov issued phones/tablets that are mostly iPhone and iPad - all manufactured in China.

How is this any different?

We need not to equate manufacturing of goods from China with CCP/PLA.

At the price of Americans living poorer quality of life?

At the price of Americans living poorer quality of life?

What happens if it hollows out domestic car manufacturing? Or increases the risk of death or injury due to cars that are less safe? Both would result in a poorer quality of life as well.

Yeah HARD fucking pass on that.

Because the last thing we need is more disposable, impossible to repair Chinese crap flooding the market.
