What to bring to OCS

I'm getting everything ready to pack for OCS, and I'm just trying to complete the checklist. I was wondering about some answers to a few questions I have:
1). I know we're supposed to be bringing our own running shoes, but aren't we fitted at OCS for running and other shoes? If so, what type of shoes are given? I know there's a thread that was on here a while back (can't seem to find it though) about what type of running shoes everyone prefers. If anyone has the link or knows of an outside link or information. I'm going to buy some newer running shoes tomorrow so they'll be broken in in time (about a week and a half) for OCS.
2). As far as the storage issue goes, basically they tell us to put everything in a locker until liberty (if we get it), in which case, it'll be unlocked and we'll have access to it? If we are driving, can we just park our vehicles over in the vacant lot across the street by the seawall (where McD's used to be - pre-Ivan), or will NASP renta' cops tow it? I'd assume we could keep whatever in there (civilian clothes, cell phone charger, etc.), as long as we are cleared to go and get them (i.e. no sneaking out to get it). Any clarification on this would help.
3). How much money, and in what kind of increments should I bring? I've been told about $300 from recruiters, but then I've heard you won't need that much cash. Also, I was told that the best denominations are 1's, 5's, and 10's, in case you have to go to the NEX, but that seems like a wad of cash to be carrying around at OCS..
4). Should I worry about labeling everything or putting them in zip-lock bags, as the Marines have to do? What about a seabag? Will it be necessary or is it issued?

Other than that, I'm following the directions from the OCS site which lists necessary items as: (in my case)

Important Papers
  • Your original orders and five copies
  • Certified copy of your Birth certificate
  • Certified copy of your Marriage certificate
  • Certified copy of college transcripts showing degree earned
  • Copy of EPSQ (hardcopy and disk with password)
  • Copy of Vehicle Registration and Insurance (for vehicle permit on base)

Personal Gear
  • Underwear, briefs only (8 pairs)
  • Minimum $100 cash (about $300)
  • Personal toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving kit, etc.)
  • Two plain white bath towels
  • Wrist watch
  • White crew neck T-shirts (8)
  • White crew socks - no stripes or colors (8 pairs)
  • Running shoes
  • Civilian clothes (two changes)

If there's anything else you guys can think of that is necessary, PLEASE let me know!!

On a side note, when do we actually conduct our first PFT? I was told it wasn't until the 3rd week, when our 1st inspection was, but can someone clarify that?

Wow! Could you be over thinking this a bit? Bring some porn I think you may need the release.

Haha! I was thinking I might slip that into my Bible. That'd be allowed, wouldn't it?!

No, but seriously, I'm trying to get all of this crap in one shot at the store (you'd be surprised how hard it is to find tighty-whitey's that aren't grey or have HANES plastered all over them!).. I just don't want to go and spend over $100 on running shoes if they're just going to issue us some instead.. They'll be worn out either way..

Bills

There is no need to have a special supply of small bills, just bring 20s and you will be good to go.

I was told I would need to bring $1 bills only, and that they should be crisp, able to be folded easily, and tucked into certain articles of skimpy, tight clothing worn by "performers" for when we go on liberty!

If you're in uniform is that kosher? I ask because one of the first things they told us when we were freshmen is don't go to strip clubs in your whites.

I'm not sure if you are in Tayy, Jax, or somewhere else in the sunshine state, but if you (or will be) near a Navy Exchange, you can get the undies and T-shirts there. The BVDs are all white with no other stuff on them. I think you have a military ID already, right?

Otherwise, there is always the NEX online.

Sadly, my ID and military benefits expired when I turned 23. Apparently, unless I'm disabled, I lost them at 23, or when I graduated college, or when I got married (pick one). Either way, it all happened about the same time. I was looking at NAS Jax's NEX and all of their undies are white w/ grey elastic. As much I want to shine at OCS, it isn't because of my undies - I figured the grey would get me into trouble with the DI..

Not until you are reporting for duty at OCS are you eligible for an ID card (unless under another program - NROTC, USNA, Reserve, etc.). I'm not sure when exactly at OCS you get it, but I'd assume you'd need it, since eventually they take you to the NEX uniform shop and all and you will probably need it there.

This is the first I've seen about needing white briefs.

Is that true?

In the handbook they pass out, it says to take a "Navy Type" blanket. What is that?

I love how the OCS website says to not bring stuff the handbook says to bring.

Under the FAQ, where it says "What do I need to bring?"

"You should bring the following items when reporting to OCS:

b) Underwear, briefs only (6-8 pairs) "

It doesn't appear to specify the color, if that's your contention. But go ahead, bring your pastel Calvin Klein's....
