Annie Jacobsen manages to get most of the topics she covers pretty wrong. Take what she says with a healthy grain of salt. It isn’t fascinating if it’s wrong.

So what does she get wrong in this book?

We weren’t so far off with the COVID-19 pandemic. It had a pretty high infection rate, but way short of what the measles has. It had a relatively low mortality rate compared to the original SARS virus, which was around 10%. It pretty much mostly killed old people, as compared to the 1980 flu, which killed young people.

I haven't read this book, but I have seen some of her work on nuclear weapons, and she has some fairly bizarre misunderstandings about how the NCA exercises nuclear weapons C2. People I respect in that field dismiss her as a sensationalist hack. Take that for what it is worth.
