According to the IMO International Maritime Organization, an aluminum can takes between 200-500 years to dissolve at sea.

Paper takes a few weeks but most of the paper we use is chlorinated. And plus metal and paper fetch the highest market value.

Really Dorothy, who gives a shit? Take a tube of Vagisil, squirt some in your palm and rub until the irritation goes away. That comment you made early hasn't won you any loyalty. IMO, you're worse than the garbage you're so concerned about being dumped in the ocean.

blah, blah, blah ...
Say Einstein ... didn't you read your rep comments and/or the rest of this thread subsequent to your "enlisted men are ignorant" post ..??? I have yet to see anyone take such a hit in the "reputation" department w/ only 3 posts on his belt.

No one here gives a fuck WHAT YOU think ... about anything.

You are a ridiculous parody of a person who thinks he matters --- reality check: you don't.

Roger that???

I guess since you squeaked in under the radar to get pro-rec, than you must not be as "ignorant" as to completely IGNORE points made by some of us.

Dumping metal does more for the environment than you crowing about it on airwarriors. Damn near every state with water has an artificial reef. It promotes growth of coral, and from the NY Times article:

One by one, a machine operator has been shoving hundreds of retired New York City subway cars off a barge, continuing the transformation of a barren stretch of ocean floor into a bountiful oasis, carpeted in sea grasses, walled thick with blue mussels and sponges, and teeming with black sea bass and tautog.
Yup. That sounds like those metal subway cars are really fucking things up on the bottom.

This is unbelievable. An (almost) equal number of infractions to number of posts. I almost don't want this troll to get banninated, just to see how badly we can destroy it.

Just a quick question for you "ecofag"... Who in the fuck do you think came up with the rules involving us dumping where we do?!? ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTISTS. That's right, people who actually USED their degree for something constructive. People who were SUCCESSFUL in life. You on the other hand, are something wholly different.

First, to the Eco-Ass, if I were you I would never show your face on this board again. Second, withdraw your application to become an officer. I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that I never want to serve with someone like you.

Alright for the legitimate question: Has the Navy's attitude towards protecting the environment and becoming more environmentally conscious changed because of regulation or is their a genuine shift in the attitude of personnel towards being environmental conservative?

I'm curious because I seem to meet a lot of service members who don't care to much about the environment. Personally, I'm for protecting it as much as possible until those actions effect mission readiness and capability, endanger sailors, or are just illogical and stupid. Thoughts?

Second DSL's question: I think we had the response to ecofriendlyrich's misinformed and ignorant comments nailed down pretty well by about page 3. Other than the above post from Ektar actually talking about something, I think the past few pages have just been everyone getting their shots in on this guy. I think we got him.
