TOP GUN for NFO's?

Do NFO's go to TOP GUN anymore? I would think not since from what I hear TOP GUN is for A/A combat which I would assume would then be all single seater planes. Anyone know?

What do you think the NFO does during an A/A fight, just enjoy the scenery? Yes, NFOs go to Top Gun. I'll let the pointy nose types pile on with specifics.

Not only to the pointy nose NFOs (F-18F, maybe a few final F-14 guys) go to Top Gun, but so do the E-2C NFOs and enlisted Operation Specialists (OSs) that run AAW intercepts from ships. Top Gun is about Air to Air Warfare, not just throwing around jets within a mile or two of each other for a gun shot. It takes more than just a pilot in a single airplane.

I thought the E-2C was unarmed, so how the heck would it do AAW?

Based on your profile, you haven't earned the right to call a pilot a stick-monkey.

See, that's an example of someone who can call a pilot a stick-monkey. ;)

The latest tactic is for the E-2 to ram opposing jets with their 8-bladed prop. They switched to that, because the big white frisbee wasn't very accurate. :icon_tong
