The rest of the world may one day find out to be careful what they wish for; it might come true. US isolationism has a tendency to spawn wars, which then require the US to pull other countries' bacon out of the fire . . .

Until then, I guess we'll have to keep hearing about how evil our hegemony is when it keeps a good bit of the world sleeping peacefully at night, left-wing or right.

well i dont know the last time a Marine killed a Mexican farmer across the border the Marines had to eventually leave the South Texas Valley. Also remember a lot of enlisted Marines are of Mexican decent.

I'm of German decent... that didn't stop my grandfather from fighting the Nazis.... I think being an American Marine would come first, heritage second.

well being a hispanic, if Mexico started screwing up and murdering millions of people then of course i and many others would be against their government. Now if they were tossed into something that they didnt start or couldnt help, especially being threatened with tanks and what not, then that turns the tables. I guarantee heritage will take over.

Are you saying that all the US soldiers of middle eastern descent should rebel against out country b/c saddam is already out and this seems like "operation Oil Freedom"? In these manner you can surely try to justify terrorism. "oh yeah, we bomb their buildings and embassies, but they don't like us, don't respect our traditions/heritage and invade our countries for oil"

Being an American (soldier, sailor, airman, marine, guard and even civilian for that matter) should be above any heritage, if not the person is not deserving of the being called one (This includes a bunch of liberals in my neigborhood :D ). Also, being in the military has obvious pros and CONS. YES, I said "CONS" because when you sign up for service you are losing your social-political opinion (at least you should) and some other rights. One needs to obey orders, regardless of enjoying them or not. This is "Service" not disneyland...

P.S. I m not saying it shouldn't happen if it is an obvious genocide (that will never happen) but if the time comes you have to choose sides and it takes you a while to you to choose sides, it is obvious to which nation your alligeance goes to...not ours. Just a thought, not being discriminatory in any sense.

i'm not trying to get into a race war here. you see whats happening in Iraq. Its not looking good and thats just a few extreme Iraqis. apparently the majority of Iraqis love us and want us there. Now imagine a country that doesnt want us there. It would be worse. this has nothing to do with terrorism etc. Heritage is something but morals are more. if the USA became a police or dictator state that took away the citizen's rights for no reason except for what they allowed then i would be fighting for the patriots' side and fight to get my country back. if the US decided just to go into Mexico then yes I'd feel it was wrong and fight back. Seriously i want to stop this here so it wont go further because this thread will just become a flame war. Sooo in other news....you think Gargamel will ever catch the Smurfs?
