Topeka, commanded by Cmdr. Marc Stern, was commissioned on Oct. 21, 1989 and is one of seven Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarines assigned to Submarine Squadron 11. ...while our brave P-3C crews endlessly train in the proper use of LPUs and Easy Bake ovens in a 1g environment at the low, low altitude of 2500' above Lake Chelan, WA.

On watch as planesman during an emergency blow, angles and dangles, quick dive, euchre on the mess decks, the midwatch baker bringing food to control even though the CO's standing orders say no food, and standing lookout with the OOD while running silent on the surface at night are some of the "few" good memories I have of the Fast Attack community. I try and forget the sparkle teams, section tracking party, TDU loadouts, port and starboard watch section while in port..... on the whole, yeah, I am definitely happier being on the other side of the equation hunting the sub! :D

No man, that was totally legit. I actually had a cousin in the Coast Guard take that picture. Unfortunately the position was classified, so they had to mask some identities.

If you look real close you can see the thermal scarring left by the CIS nuke.

Old school ...

USS BOWFIN (SS-287) ... launched one year after Pearl Harbor.
Today ... she's a memorial in Pearl, the main fixture of the USS BOWFIN Museum & Park ... side by side w/ the visitor center @ the USS Arizona Memorial.
