The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Seriously this is not a thing in AF units. The Aviation Life Support career field folks do this stuff for a living. Unreal that squadron PR's dont do this work. Why aren't you browbeating / shaming the LPO/Chief of your PR shop?
Given the number of incorrectly sewn rank insignia I’ve seen in my career, I’m not handing over my leather.

Even way back when I didn't have the PR's in my squadron sew my leather jacket, and they were damn good at their job. I'd rather them focus on survival gear than learning the fine points of sewing leather patches on leather jackets.

One small point to note, USAF patches are rarely (if ever?) sewn directly on their leather jackets usually utilizing velcro backing while the Navy practice is usually the opposite.

Agreed with @Flash ; but I've had them do my NOMEX jacket. As it's not really part of their job I usually got them a 6 pack, a sandwich or pizza, or some other way of saying "thanks."

Rank tabs on my flight suit, velcro on my flight suit, etc., sure. But patching up a jacket just isn't really their job. Plus, they don't typically have the right needle/machine for leather and I wouldn't want PRAN Schmuckatelli getting it uneven anyway.

I placed an order in April and just received it a few weeks ago. Recommend checking out his web store, most things are on there which you can immediately special order.

I got lucky and my squadron had a chest patch for me, which seems to be the item with the longer lead time for design and production. But for things like name tags, flags, weapons school patches, etc. the web store makes things significantly easier and relatively quick.

I let the PRs do Nomex jackets early one. For my first tour we really didn't have leather patches on our leather jackets.

Tipsy Gyspy was around but had intermittent turnaround times (2000s), to the point you might be gone from your squadron before you got it. In the end I have my leather setup with my last squadron patch, name tag (callsign only), 2 x 1000hrs patches (Turkey and Rhino), and NFWS / Topgun patch on the shoulders. I had whatever place was the place outside of Oceana sew those on. I also had several Nomex setup - early JO 'Junk' Jacket with everything on it, then two more setup like my Leather jacket with minimalist stuff, but I usually had those done by the same place because I didn't want PRAN Schmuckitellie' to screw it up.
