The USS Blueback has a bit to do with aviation. She picked me up after I'd ditched an AD-5Q off San Diego.
Interesting...SARDET used to be part of Wing Six (kinda, sorta, really more a det of base Air Ops; but they had an "F" tailcode, anyway).

I used to ping the crap out of the Blueback with DICASS buoys. I threw a couple of exercise torps her way too. She was a great training asset in her day.
Ah, that explains the Wing 5 patches I would see on guys down at Mainside but who I knew were Duck pilots. I never put the two together. I think I asked one guy in ASO school, but there were too many other things going on at the time to get an answer. Mystery solved.
When did OSA (Station SAR) retire the "Gulf Runner" UH-3's? Already heading that way (Pcola) this weekend guess I'll check them out.
I am the photographer for the picture at the top of this page as well as the one for the TRAWINGFIVE website. We belong to TRAWINGFIVE until we shut down in October of this year. A lot has changed since many of you have known the station. I was there when we retired the UH-3H too. I am the senior AW2 over at the Station Sar Unit. We still keep the "Gulf Runner" callsign.
