Log book pages noting the actions of the Lieutenant (junior grade) Arthur Ray Hawkins of Fighting Squadron (VF) 31 during June 1944. Note his kills during the "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot" sixty-eight years ago today. Hawkins finished the war with 14 kills and three awards of the Navy Cross.

Pretty cool pictures... But we went to Iraq a few days later... It was kind of funny watching the news talking about "the last" flight/aircraft to leave/"presence" as we were planning a flight to Iraq.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. All the news articles claiming that the last convoy to pass into K-crossing was the last military to leave Iraq were definitely wrong, since we took off once we knew they were in Kuwait (we had to remain a MEDEVAC asset until no military were left and we had no more mission). What the hell were you doing in Iraq after everyone was gone but the DOS?
