TBS Birthday Ball

What is the birthday ball at TBS like? Is it worth while to have the 'ol girlfriend come out for it or should I leave the she-devil at home? Also, can you tell me about any of the costs of the ball at TBS?

I can tell you that TBS BALL is 100.00 because it's held down in Richmond and it also pays for cost of hotel and tickets. I'm guessing more for your bartab for the evening as well. We didn't go because at the time he was in limbo in Mike Co- and it's kind of "frowned upon" when you're in mike co and a couple of guys who went said it felt like they didn't fit in...so instead of going through all that we opted to not go last year. That's all the 411 I can give you on this end. Have fun.

Yeah, I'm sure it changes on whomever is in charge of the festivities. Some people plan better than others...

For SPC day- some of the plts played football, went to dc to check out historical monuments (which they had already visited), and then for the evening went on the booze cruise over in MD. Where as my husbands plt went to Busch Gardens, and bar hopped that entire night after that...like I said, I think some just plan better than others.

Ours was in Richmond AND we had to buy the room AND pay for the ball. However, ball was a good time and we got a lot of free booze from one of the bartenders. It was my first so I wasn't going to pass it up. If it isn't your first, weigh the ups/downs.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Alpha company started late november last year. Now I have a reporting date of 25OCT, along with everyone else I know who just got commissioned, which is a month before we class up? Anyone know anything about this or are we all just going to be sitting in Mike company for a month. Sucks if you're frowned upon at the ball.

Bring the date if you're serious about her. There won't be any unattached pooty at the ball, so you may as well BYOP. Some guys like to pull chocks early and hit the town, but I always figure the ball only comes once a year, so I generally stay awhile.

I agree, the ball only comes once a year, so it's best to stay... UNLESS you have your ball in Vegas. More fun can be had in one night on the town in Vegas while wearing dress blues than in two non-vegas birthday balls... and that's being conservative.

That's crap, in my opinion. Just because you're in Mike Co doesn't make you any less of a Marine when it comes to the Birthday Ball. Typical TBS BS.

well, bs or not...we had just had our flood and lost 50k worth of household goods and memories...so I don't think my husband was going to risk the 100.00 and gamble a good night or bad night at the time.

Oh and to answer SETX07 we were suppose to start with Charlie Co back in April but because of his history of heat strokes and a blood clot they wanted to make sure he was good to go...even though he had already been checked out prior to TBS. Better safe than sorry, right? Anyhow, he got word he was picking up with Alpha Co I think it was towards the end of November. And, yes from what I know, if there is time before you start up Mike co is where everyone gets sent to.

I think that is Fox Co

Ugh.
When we went- it wasn't what I expected. It was in Richmond, and we were stuck in a basement room and watched the ceremony upstairs in a grandball room via closed circuit TV. BECAUSE HE WAS IN MIKE CO at that point- going through IFS.
Of course, we were able to go up for the 'fun' part, but there were so many people, it was kind of ridiculous. Plus many of his Charlie '06 Co. had moved on to their MOS schools.
We didn't get a hotel room, so we carpooled (and had a DD) back to Stafford. I think the cost of the Ball alone was $75 per person.

That's just one of my experiences. I WOULD recommend going, since it is a special occasion. :) And everyone's experience is different. Plus your GF would probably want to get dressed up and meet some of your fellow TBS buddies.

I liked being in the basement. I could take a nap and the speaker couldn't hear me snore.

I thought the Ball at TBS was good stuff. I would fly your girl in. Besides, how often do you get to see her? Well worth it, for me at least.

My opinion...I can't imagine even considering not going to the Birthday Ball unless I am deployed. We are Marines, our Birthday is a big deal.
There will be no single girls at the ball, so bring your own or find out what buds of yours are also going stag and get tore up.
