Wink,
I just wanted to let you know that I haven't done any new body work since I decided that I wanted to be an Officer. It's just what I have done in my past. And the only reason that I haven't submitted a package yet is becuase I haven't finished school yet. I was just trying to get some information. I know some officers that are in my unit now and they have tattoos. So they have to let some in with tattoos. Maybe I'll just kill a cow and shave the skin off. Tattoos will be out of sight. Out of sight out of mind.

Okay, So whats the Speed of Dark?
Tattoos.

The other day a friend of mine was getting a tattoo of some flames and what not, and I’ve always thought about getting a tattoo as well.

The question is, will my tattoo of choice effect my naval career? (Soviet Hammer and Sickle)

And no, Im not turning communist, I just like the history.

I talked to a friend of mine who is enlisted in the army, and he said I couldn’t have any insignias of another country, but I thought it would be all right since the union collapsed more than 15 years ago.

I need advice, since im really itching to get something done.

I don't know exactly what the regs would say about this, but IMHO it would not be a good idea. You may not be a communist, but if someone sees you with that tattoo and doesn't know you, they may think you are. I would think that giving the appearance that you might be a communist would not be smart.

That would NOT go over well. Don't do it.

Two things come to mind: Security Clearance and SERE.

I was under the impression that tattoos were a no no for officers. Let alone tattoos of a country that was our enemy and aided countries that we fought in armed combat. Can not be a for real question; has to be for extra credit.
My suggestion is you get a Chesty Puller sucks tattoo and enlist in the Marine Corps.

I actualy thought, officers could have tattoos if under uniform/pt gear.
Doesn't Zab have some tattoos? Maybe I'm mistaken.

And yes the Union aided countries... but was never officially our "enemy".

Thanks for the suggestions tho! Im sure the marines would love to see the "Puller sucks" tattoo:)

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
errr, okay :( ill get something else.

recommendations anyone?

Here is a recommendation...think before you post. Did you honestly think that anyone, besides Thull, would have thought that a tattoo of a hammer and sickle would be a good idea? WWII Germany had a pretty interesting history. Why don't you carve a swastika on your forehead while you are at it? :)

I Didnt know you could compare Nazi Germany and the Former Soviet Union.

I wonder why we had them as allies to beat the nazis if their so alike?

I thought it would make a great tattoo.. sorry for asking.

Harvey, I just gotta say it.

ARE YOU ON FRIGGIN CRACK!

If my grandfather was alive (he escaped from the Soviet Annexation of Latvia, and their subsequent killing of 90% of my family) he would pimp-slap you, and then knock you out with the other hand.

I think you should go for it, hammer and sickel right on your forehead. Please tell me you are not that stupid to even seriously consider this and if you are please do not pursue a commision.
I realize that I am coming down harder on this post than I usually do but this is one of the all time most retarded questions we have fielded here.

By the way we are done

Thread's still locked, but to clarify, officers can have tatts. I don't know the specific wording from the Uniform Regs (where it's covered in depth). And yes, I have some, that aren't visible in PT gear.

Tattoo and Information Professional

I have a tattoo an inch long and an inch wide on the inside of my right wrist. My question is does my CO need to be the one to fill out the Tattoo Screening Certificate (NAVCRUIT 1130/104) or can I have the doctor do it when I go in for my physical exam? And who do I mail it off to for the wavier?

Also, I wanted to know if Information Professional 1600 and Crypto 164X were valid designators to select for the OCS application. IP is in the OCS OPNAVINST 1420.1b, but Crypto is not.

For Block 3, Desired community/designator, you would choose a designator from the list of designators on page H-2, OFFICER COMMUNITIES AND DESIGNATORS LIST:

http://doni.daps.dla.mil/Directives/01000%20Military%20Personnel%20Support/01-400%20Promotion%20and%20Advancement%20Programs/1420.%201B.pdf

Information Warfare is the name for 1610/1640 community, not "crypto."
