The stress of getting out after having worn a uniform since I was 18 was lessened a little when I got home today. There was a FEDEX overnight envelope on my porch from my first choice company...

$88K/year + $2K sign on bonus, and that only scratches the surface of their sweet benefits!

Thank god. Anyone who's getting out and wants to ask me what I've done, I'm more than happy to share.

And yes - this is about Naval Aviation becuase the position is as an Avionics Software Engineer on the Heavy Lift Replacement (CH-53K) at Pax River...

I've got about a year before I have to decide what to do, but I figure it can't hurt to explore options early enough to build some ties. How early did you decide/begin your search?

I worked on tweaking my resume and putting it through the grinder (sending it to my Dad at Lockheed, having Bradley Morris look at it, etc...) while I was on deployment. Didn't start the job search until I got back from deployment (Dec 2nd). I didn't seek this company out, they saught me out. Turns out they had a need for someone with a B.S. in Computer Science with a helicopter pilot background. Who would have thought?

HAL, I'm still going to be looking to you for "networking" when it comes to flying jobs in Hawaii (the wife still has orders there). I haven't completely given up hope yet!

Is this a job with NAVAIR by chance? This is why I ask . . .

Currently, i have an application in to the board in hopes of going to Navy OCS as a SNA, but in the meantime, having graduated last December, I only have a part-time job that is not exactly career-building material.

Today, I went to a campus career fair and talked to a very cool recruiter from NAVAIR. I think it went well (i.e., he liked me), and he told me that he may call me tonight to schedule an interview for tomorrow.

Any suggestions from this board regarding an interview with NAVAIR?

I was wondering about the Hawaii and wife thing....

I'll tell you what I know but it ain't much since I'm in Vegas. When I get recalled to Hawaiian it'll be a whole different story.

Good deal for you and congrats.

Sounds like you'll be on the road a lot attending IPTs, meetings, PDRs, and all of that other good NAVAIR stuff. Hopefully they take you to good locations other than New River and Bridgeport, CT.
