T-34C Instructor Pilot Position Open at Pope AFB

Any idea why the requirement exists to be qualified as both a rotary AND fixed wing pilot?
 
Probably to give Army Helo drivers first dibs on this job as a way out of the Army....but still working with the Army.

I heard once that the gov't jobs posted on planejobs and usajobs, etc etc, would never get filled and were used for applicant data or something to that effect? Who knows.

I don't know the deal w/ Pope, but Rucker has a similar job. The T-34s I think are Army, but not 100% sure. They'll come down to Whiting to get Natops qualed or get IP qualed based on their needs. Right now there's only one guy working there and as of a month or so ago, they needed another body.

For the Army guys, they want both R/W and F/w because much of what they do is flown in concert w/ the helos. They want to have someone who understands the peculiarities of the helo world flying off of a helo as -2.

That would actually hurt most Army rotary guys since they aren't fixed wing qualed.

They're obviously looking for someone who can hold their liquor! This is, of course, a necessity to survive the job locale (Fuckitville, NC).
 
When I was at the S-3 Weps School, we dealt with these guys quite a bit(Pope). They use the T-34's to get behind cargo planes and follow payloads down as they come out the back to test/observe new parachutes, configs,etc. So you are essentially coming down like a ton of bricks. (probably why the rotary req:D) The rotary bit may be a typo or easily waiverable req.(Pope) My favorite part of the job announcement under who may apply Veterans eligible as 30% Disabled Veterans. The flying is not for the faint of heart, they are some good guys, and fly those things like jets. whoah!

Again, not sure about Pope, but for the guys out of Dothan, it is NOT a typo nor waiverable.
 
I think they fly both airframes ( H-1's). Yea if you could get around living in Fayetnam, it wouldn't be to bad a gig.
 
That posting is basically a formality. They guy who will fill the position is already in place. Hence why the posting is only open for a week. It's a great job though.

The R/W qualification is non-negotiable. They don't have any helicopters yet, but plan to aquire the LUH-72 and/or Super Hueys in the next couple of years.
 
Depends on what step you're in within that grade, but GS13 at step 1 is around 68k a year. Step 2 is ~70k, and so on. That doesn't include the extra money you get that varies by location. For me (GS5), the base is something like 26k, but in Boston it goes up to 31k.

Not very good at all unless it has a steep improvement.

I agree with Stearmann, position is probably already filled but for legal purposes, it needs to be offered to the masses... I saw something similar happen with one of my friends that was retiring and wanted to come back the next day as a civilian. Good deal for those guys though.
