Rats, missed it

Too bad its filled. Sounds fun. I had both fixed & helo & a bunch of T34C hours. But I retired & havent been able to find a way back in. Not sure a GS salary would make up for loosing my Retire pay

I'm not so sure you would lose your retired pay if you choose to not count your military years towards a civil service retirement.

HH-60 is right. You CAN end up getting 2 retirement checks from completing a military career and a civilian government career. You just can't try to add your 20 years in the military to your creditable civilian time. There rules used to be much different.

You wouldn't lose your military retired pay if you were hired as a GS unless you specifically opted out of it, which no one ever does.

What? I wish I'd known that 10yrs ago...I'd started on a GS retirement track. I am working on a civilian 401 retirement, but would love to be back in service even as a GS. Now I'm 50 & my wife says grow up & give it up.

I left the active duty with 15 years service. I work for the government as a GS 13 and sold back all my acitve time.So I essentially have 16 years fed service instead of one. I'm also in the guard and my active time still goes toward my guard retirement . My 15 years also goes toward my vacation time so I get a 26 days a year plus 3 weeks of military leave to fullfill my gaurd duties
The fact that it is a GS13 step one doesn't mean you can't negociate a higher step. It happens all the time, especially if you have the experience they want.
Being in the system is a pretty good gig. The nice part is you can establish some roots and not relocate e very three years.
