T-34 vs T-6

I know next to nothing about naval aviation since I come from the AF side, but I was curious, how long is the T-34 going to be in the inventory? I thought I remember hearing that the Navy was going to T-6s like the AF. I'm just curious, mainly because of the fact that the T-34 doesn't have an ejection seat, which interests me for medical reasons since I can't fly ejection seat aircraft.

T-34C is no longer used for NFO training as of June of this year. I am not sure when the transition will eventually be completed for pilot training though.

why'd they stop using the T-6 for NFO training? there go my plans for my shore tour....
 
In early 2001 the Navy decided to discontinue acquisition of the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System (JPATS) for fiscal years 2002 through 2007.

Is this still in effect? I didn't see a date on the info and the last date was in here:
Initial student training began in October 2001 at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. Currently, aircraft are being delivered to Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, the second entry-level student training base, and to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, where naval flight officers training began September 2003.

I think you are confused. T-6 is the sole platform for NFO primary is what he was saying.
 
The total transition will take awhile. Mainly nothing in Corpus has long enough runways for its use. Leave it to the beancounters to buy an AF aircraft that has no beta and crappy brakes.
 
From what I understand the Navy is not going to take full delivery to replace the T-34 until the T-6 has beta. Like lowflier said, none of the runways (minus 13R) in Corpus are long enough. They recently took steps to limit the amount of Gs that the T-34 is exposed to so as to extend its life. We no longer do tail chase and short breaks are only authorized to 60 AOB, not 90 anymore.

I can'y believe they are figuring this all out now, after how many years of JPATS ?

ARRGH! PLEASE tell me that's a TW-4 thing and not a whole Primary thing! You guys are getting screwed . . . most fun in the entire MPTS syllabus follows a "pistol-cock" and a "kiss-off" . . .

(waiting for someone to come up with an obscene comeback to my last . . .)
 
Actually Corpus has been the place where you could always use more AOB on breaks and such. Now they are just instituting T-34 wide orders to extend the airframe life as long as possible. Though cruise forms were the most fun flights in all of Primary.

Why's that? Are the physics of flight that much different in Texas than in Florida? Guess a 90 degree AOB doesn't produce as many g's in TX than it does in FL.
 
I remember getting told in the course rules brief that it's all about the dual runways at corpus. Hard to fly 1/4 wtd opposite the pattern side on both 13L/13R at the same time. Not sure if that's what your looking for, but it makes sense.

Yeah I've been told by everyone who went thru before me and got to do tail chase how screwed over we are. We still do cruise form, but its just the wingover/turns into, so they're some damn boring flights. Oh well, gotta make the best out of it I guess, I'm still having fun.

Yeah, cause 45 AOB vs 30 AOB in a T-34 doing 170 kts is such a huge difference

Second you on the cruise forms, definitely the most fun part of Primary.
