Swallowing wings

I was up at GaTech signing my life over to Uncle Sam last week and some how my dad and the captain there brought up that they had seen x-rays of wings inside guys stomachs back in the day. I guess tradition was(is?) that you drop them in your beer mug and have to drink the beer to get them out. I guess some guys either had way too much to drink beforehand or they had experience swallowing wierd objects... Two questions for the salty guys here: How did the wings get all the way down the ossophagus with the prongs? And how the hell did they get them out?...

hmm...
See, guys just do stupid things around GaTech b/c of the complete lack of girls. The only super happy guy I see around there is the ensign that just graduated from the academy working over at NRD Atlanta. I knew some school had to have a worse ratio than tech.

Things actually are looking up this year so far as I can tell...Maybe the hot ones just haven't withdrawn from class to go to State or Southern Poly yet. Or maybe dental hygeinist school. What do I know though...I'm married.

Xmid...are you a mid or bdcp or something?

*This thread was bound to get jacked so no complainers, please.*

OCS. Captain Radloff swore me in.

@quid.non
They were thinking back to their days in flight school not GT, though I'm not gonna argue with you about the lack of scenery there or at the academy.

If feddoc is around, is it even possible to shit out a pair of wings? Even if they still had the frogs on them I would think you'd get some major internal lacerations...

Actually, it was a pitcher. And yes it did happen. There used to be several x-rays of swallowed wings lining a hall at NAMI. The pins weren't exposed for just such an occurrence. They always made sure the clips were on the pins. I didn't personally know anyone to swallow his wings. But then, this was NFO winging. NFOs are smart enough to know not to swallow the wings. Now stick monkeys...that is another story;).

Never heard of it -- never did it. I just gotta wonder at the mindset behind the motivation for swallowing metal .... ????

However ..... picking geckos off the wall and swallowing them in the PI after a few too many San Mugu's or too much
Lambanog... that's a different story altogether .... now THAT makes complete sense.

The tradition was you put your wings in an "overboost", which was basically a shot of every type of hard liquor at the NAS Ellyson O Club placed in a large glass, not of pitcher capacity. Someone would announce "Overboost going down". You would then chug the overboost and catch your wings in your teeth. Timing was critical and if you erred, your wings wound up in your stomach. My technique was flawless but there was an X Ray on the wall of a Marine whose timing was less than perfect. I was told his name was "Wings" Weis.
This ritual was conducted on Friday nights, the night of the winging ceremony; all newly winged unrestricted naval aviators put up 20 bucks and the drinks were free until the money ran out. Back then that was a lot of money and you could drink for quite awhile. Of course the VTers would come over to the HT8 compound and grace us with their presence, until the booze ran out.
Overboosts were not covered by the 20 dollar donation. They were 3 bucks and my TH 57 instructor bought mine. An excellent aviator who flew combat SAR for Big Mother and had more medals than God. I guess VietNam was a cake walk compared to teaching me how to hover and do touchdown autos.

Are these evening dress wings? 'Cause I just can't see swallowing the standard ones...unless you have experience suppressing your gag reflex....

We used to call it "drinking your wings". Standard (full) size wing, pitcher of beer. Chug and catch. If you swallowed them, you had to do it again.

Started hearing less and less of it happening in the early 90s as the PC police gained strength.
