sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

My recruiter just informed me that the OCM isn’t even looking at ISEL packages until potentially the June regular board. I submitted my package in February, and that means I may not hear back about my ISEL package for another 12 weeks.

I suppose I don’t understand the ISEL process like I thought.

If they don't have spots to give they can't process ISEL, that could be the issue.

I'm seeing a lot of older information on this so I thought I'd ask here since it seems the process has changed somewhat:

1) I was pro-rec y'd for SWO in Feb. My recruiter is just now sending me the 72-hour COP form. Is this going to impact my eligibility?

2) For the monthly COP forms, if I answer yes to any of them, how does that impact my eligibility?

3) Many of the COP form questions lack any time frame - for example, it asks "Have you or any immediate family members traveled outside of the United States?" I have traveled outside the US but the last time I traveled outside the US was in 2018. Other questions on this form specific "while in COP" / "since you joined the Commissioning On boarding Program."

4) Since I'll be filling these out monthly from now until August (?) when I'm scheduled to ship to OCS, do I keep my answers the same if they're a yes? For example, if I answer on my 72-hour COP form "Yes" to the question asking "Have you spoken to a police officer for any reason while in COP?" do I have to answer yes to that question on every subsequent monthly COP form because I put yes on the first one or are these forms supposed to be answered based on event between my most recent last submission?

5) How will my "yes" / bad answers on my COP form impact my eligibility or likelihood to receive my FINSEL - for example, if I plan on telling my employer of my ship date?

6) I do not currently meet the PFA standards. I also don't meet the weight standards (but meet waist width standards). Will these impact my ship date and/or my FINSEL?

7) A lot of the FINSEL information I've seen is from 10+ years ago. When should I expect my FINSEL and how often does a FINSEL letter change your OCS ship date?

Any other information/advice about the FINSEL / COP process is appreciated! I've got some work to do physically (I'd like to lose about 20-30 more lbs before shipping and get my PRT to Good - High to Excellent - Low) but I'm not super concerned about that considering I ship in August and have been consistently maintaining a workout regime for the past 2 months.

Thanks!

The COP form is fairly new and or an internal document so you’re not going to find much here.

For this specific question, I am assuming you’ve been in the application process for a few months, maybe more. What have you been doing from initial start until now to get within BCA and PRT standards? Hint: Doing nothing isn’t the right answer.

Not sure you follow politics / news but the current Administration, particularly the Dept of War/Defense, whatever it’s called, they are cracking down on people out of shape and standards joining the military and this includes initial military training. This is trickling down to the navy recruiting level and holding applicants more accountable for meeting their end of the deal with meeting BCA and PRT standards before they ship out.

I-SEL was never intended for what you believe it to be. It was intended to give Navy Recruiting Command and specific officer communities a means to fast track the applicant process and bypass the normal board process - should there be a need.

It makes no sense, rather it only aggravates the problem, when a certain program is at goal now / for a while (ie next FY projections are already identified) to allow I-SEL to keep adding to the backlog.

Was this not the requirement before? My recruiter had me do a mock PRT to make sure I’d actually pass the IST at OCS.

If so, some of my friends at OCS were done a disservice by being shipped off to OCS and then failing the BCA or IST immediately. Of course, there’s some personal responsibility in that, but they shouldn’t have been allowed to go if they weren’t ready

Per my last paragraph (its a bit buried at the end) I've been consistently working out for the past ~2 months and doing bi-weekly self-administered PRT tests. I've seen my scores improve and am currently at probationary levels for push-ups, passing for planks, and need to continue working on my running.

I track all my workouts and am targeting specifically push-ups, planks, and running with a mix of HIIT and weight training. I'm still fine-tuning it as I find new information or read new advice, but I feel like its pretty solid right now.

Based on my progress + the fact I'm scheduled to ship in August, I'm not too concerned about passing the 30-day PRT test with (hopefully) Good - High. My concern / question is, how will the fact I'm currently not passing now impact my eligibility, if at all, on the COP.

Just for clarification do you know if it was Pilot and NFO ISEL packages? Going on 8 weeks of waiting for my NFO ISEL package.

I haven’t heard anything specific to NFO from my recruiter, unfortunately. He later clarified and said that although the OCM said a review of ISEL packages would occur prior to the June regular board, he anticipates it actually occurring much sooner.

For additional context, my recruiter mentioned he learned the OCM is on leave until the 17th, and that this may have been what caused a momentary delay. I don’t know if the OCM for pilots is the same as for NFOs, but if so, then that may be related to your ISEL package taking a while to get reviewed.

I believe the aviation OCM handles both NFO and Pilot applicants according to what My Navy HR states. Thanks for the insight! This process has been abysmal and getting any information is near impossible.

Just got an update from my DIVO who got ahold of the Aviation OCM. From what I hear the aviation OCM got swamped with around 60 ISEL packages and is working through them as fast as he/she can. My package and others (don't know how many) were forwarded to the NRC for the final approval and we should be getting a Yes or No by hopefully the 23rd. I hope this helps!
