We break in interval in T-34 land---if you can call what we do a break.
dude, as much as the chopper & P3 dudes there will try to make you believe, T-34's don't break, they turn to downwind...

fighter/attack ... you either fan break or 3-4 sec break. When done correctly, the fan break looks the best IMO

General overhead break question. My last Navy duty station was Pcola, and I would watch just about everything come in, including the T-39's and Toners. Being in helo-land now, I don't get to see a good fast "carrier break" anymore. Watching various videos, I've noticed that there seems to be no more of the "4-5 second" kiss-off anymore, just both jets in a section breaking about the same time???

This what you miss?

Saw a 3 ship of T-45's do a fan break over N Island yesterday when our NALO landed. Hope they were Krock dudes cause they f**ked it away royally, and it looked like -3 ended up having to wave off.

It's show time off coast of California (and in Atlantic) so maybe they're thinking about what they're about to do vice what's going on at the moment. It's one thing to "think ahead of the airplane", but shouldn't be thinking ahead of the current hop and task at hand.

Agreed, I go hook down on thurs if the wx cooperates.....not gonna lie that we got a pretty damn good deal with this one (9 days in san dog, 7 of them on the beach). Actually I think it was a group of our IP's bringing the jets in from El Sweato.

I saw a lone F/A-18 and then a pair of them flying into Phoenix Sky Harbor airport yesterday. I see them every once and a while from my room. The engine noise is very different from the commercial planes and I was just wondering why there are military jets flying into Phoenix airport. Are they doing cross countries or training or what?

If I were a betting man, I'd say so. We in T-45 land frequently stop over @ Williams Gateway to enjoy the scenery en route to/from socal.

There are a lot of low level routes around there as well.

Does a FDWO effect overall landing grades?
In general, like Bunk sez -- no .... but, like so many other things in life: it depends. :)

If you get a FDWO BECAUSE you're not flyin' the pattern properly -- i.e., you are NESA or TSIG and arrive at the moment of truth w/ the deck still fouled ... and you get WAVED OFF !!!
... and then you get a _ for a 2.0 (NO GRADE) equivalent in your landing grades, as the FDWO in this case is essentially a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It's sometimes up to the controlling LSO's discretion whether you get tagged for the WO, but you've usually fucked up and not flown the pattern correctly and now you've screwed up the BOARDING RATE and/or DELAYED the RECOVERY = all of which is muy malo.

This is sometimes accompanied by screaming & yelling by the BOSS and/or the CO ... and of course, for that --- like other indiscretions in life: you must pay. :)
