There is no instruction on it, just the custom since it has been a notable and increasingly rare accomplishment since the Korean War.

I have a good friend with a kill. He was awarded a Silver Srar.

We give dudes awards routinely for simply doing their job, why would we not give someone an award for shooting down an enemy aircraft?

I don't get the [sic]; "himself" is the proper usage of a reflexive pronoun (As opposed to the ol' Austin Powers, "Allow myself to introduce myself").

But totallt agree about ridiculousness of awards.
