Went with my roommate to Udvar-Hazy (the off-site hangar of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum) and I've attached some pictures here.

Once upon a time I went to the Evergreen Museum in Oregon and I saw the Spruce Goose. I didn't realize how large it was until I saw a SR-71 Blackbird sitting under half of one wing.

Yikes! I didn't realize how big the SR-71 was until I saw it in person!

That's nice looking F-14D. Did you get a shot of its BuNo on the aft fuselage, I may have flown in it.

Udvar-Hazy is one of the best well kept secrets of the DC area. Hands down more interesting because of it's depth and scale. Worth the hour long Metro trip or 45 minute drive. Highly recommended - I'd go here even if it meant skipping the NASM on The Mall.

Great pictures!

Here are a few more, including what I had of the F-14. Also, I didn't realize until now I could upload more than 5 at a time. :o

I thought the SR 71 looked smaller than I expected. I find that happens with a lot of "special" planes. They're rarely photographed in formation with something I'm familiar with, so I have no scale and end up thinking they are ginormous.

Oh, and here's another plug for Udvar Hazy. Unless they've changed things, you only have to pay for parking. 12 bucks for as many people as you can fit in your car. Not a bad deal at all.

I was there a few months ago and the parking is still $12, which definitely isn't bad for all the stuff you get to see. Plus if you decide to go on one of their free guided tours, the guides have some pretty interesting things to say.

Udvar-Hazy is just a few minutes away from my parents' house, so my husband and I go almost every time we're back up there visiting. Parking was recently upped to $15, but the exhibits are worth it.

I believe that they also have free parking after 3 or 4 I can't remember.

I think that's the case, because when we went, the parking stand was not manned. And, yes, like the rest of the Smithsonians, it's free admission. Definitely worthwhile to go see it.
