I had forgotten that India was building their own. I just looked at the wikipedia page for them, apparently the first one, INS Vikrant, will use STOBAR. Apparently for the second, INS Vikrant, the IN wants it to be CATOBAR and they've considered using EMALS and making it a CVN.The Indians are already building their own boats. Vikrant is afloat, another is under construction. They also overhauled and modified a Kiev they bought off the Russians - it was apparently such a nightmare program that they went to indigenous-build only.
Considering all the "carriers are obsolete" deep thinkers these days, there sure are a lot of countries building or buying their own.
Why are other countries not named Brazil or France so afraid of the steam/EM catapult?
Cats are expensive and cantankerous....The French use cats for the same reason we do - because they always have.

Of course building one and operating it effectively with sound tactics is a completely different story.
Well, yeah. But most countries don't get Boats to project power like we do (and the French). It's because they make bitchin' flagships and status symbols.
So, is this the newest leak from Edward Snowden?Looks like the Russian are planning on building a new carrier, not sure it will ever see the light of day but at least they can dream!
