There was a great disturbance in the Force, as if dozens of Tomcat fanboys suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Takes me back to Trump yelling “they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.”

I mean…he’s absolutely kinda right, but it’s also a very complex region with a lot of related but independent actors and relationships.

Still hoping the Iran/Israel cease fire will at least hold but if this shit was actually that easy to solve, someone would’ve done it a long time ago.

Or...or...hear me out...it's irresponsible for world leaders (particularly the leader of the most capable military in the world) to go about making bullshit claims for the lulz... Capitulate and obliterate - make for great sound bites (with an uncritical base), but when divorced from reality, perhaps not super helpful, but, really, who can say 🤷‍♂️

The reality is probably captured a lot more accurately here (emphasis added):

"In those first 30 days, the Houthis shot down seven American MQ-9 drones (around $30 million each), hampering Central Command’s ability to track and strike the militant group. Several American F-16s and an F-35 fighter jet were nearly struck by Houthi air defenses, making real the possibility of American casualties, multiple U.S. officials said. That possibility became reality when two pilots and a flight deck crew member were injured in the two episodes involving the F/A-18 Super Hornets, which fell into the Red Sea from the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman within 10 days of each other."

Laying hate upon bros in Hiluxes is cool...until they piece together a rudimentary IADS (yes) capable of threatening 5th Gen fighters...as the NYT article implies.....

The Houthis have been pretty damn consistent on their messaging and aims this entire time. Obviously they’re assholes, but they’ve been quite transparent on when and why they are going to attack shipping. And they said if we struck Iran they were going to respond, so color me surprised. Until the situation in Gaza is “resolved,” they probably aren’t going to stop, unless they run out of ammo.

Yemen, and by extension the Houthis (or perhaps vice versa), are going to be a thorn in the side of CENTCOM for as long as we have a CENTCOM. The geography and the political instability of the region makes it so.

For more than 3 decades we've enjoyed how easy it was to gain immediate air supremacy over the battlefield. We've forgotten that our adversaries get a vote in the fight and we've underestimated their capabilities and desires to kill us and break our stuff.
