Restricted line and badges

Restricted Line Officers wear insignia on their sleeve in place of a star (on SDBs at least).

Restricted Line wears a star like URL. Staff Corps wears a varying insignia (i.e. Medical, Supply, CEC, JAG, etc.)

Not sure I've seen restricted line officers with a pin, but I have seen medical corps officers (staff corps) getting SWO pins. Supply has its own counterparts to air/surface/sub warfare pins, too.

A SWO's job is to drive a ship, so he gets qualified to do so and gets the SWO pin. An intel officer (restricted line) has a different purpose. It isn't that they are necessarily dodging a warfare pin - it just isn't appropriate to their jobs.

A little off topic,

What do LCAC Drivers (pilots) Wear on their chest? Do they still consider themselves Enlisted Aviators that are proficient in low altitude flying?

Yes they can wear pins. Just depends on what they earn. Flight Surgeons are a good example.

The link at the bottom of the page is an All Hands depiction of warfare pins and badges in 2001. There are a few extras that have been introduced since then like the Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist pin and the Fleet Marine Force insignia, but it is pretty complete.

Most of the descriptors are self explanatory, as you can see docs and Supply officers can get a lot of pins, both are staff officers. Other than that, one of the other pins (not a warfare one though) I saw on staff officers wearing was the Naval Observer wings. Intel and other O's who meet the requirements (200 hours and completion of a PQS in the P-3 community) can wear it. Because of the time requirement not many got it but I still see it around.

P.S. Badges are the staff identifiers and recruiting thingamajigs towards the bottom.

But they could, right? I mean, is a matter of choice rather than policy, I hope.

What are you talking about? There are no warfare pins for their communities. You sound confused.

No you haven't. You might want to take a closer look at the pin.

A SWO's job is to drive a ship, so he gets qualified to do so and gets the SWO pin.
Really, is that all there is to it? Learn to drive the ship, get a pin? Do you really think that the main job of a SWO is to drive the ship?

Most of the descriptors are self explanatory, as you can see docs and Supply officers can get a lot of pins and they are staff and restricted line officers respectively.

Pretty sure both are staff corps communities. I'm going to go out on a limb and say no restricted line community has a warfare pin.

It sounds like the original poster has "pin envy." There are two things you can do about it: 1. Get over the fact that you won't have a shiny gold pin on your chest, 2. Apply for a URL community.

To give you an idea, when I was an AMDO (restricted line) on my first cruise, I was filling the material control billet (supply) for our squadron and I looked into getting the aviation supply wings...wouldn't let me do it, because I wasn't a 3100. Case closed.
