Release from Active Duty

Does anyone know the procedure for a Release from Active Duty? The NAVADMINs seem to be purposely circular.

Here's the story.

Fleet Aviator (800 hrs) FNAEB'd and redesignated a 1300 (General Aviation).
At the time they separated all the flight school attrites but since I was already winged and in the navy for more than five years they could not separate me.

I am still obligated to serve my 8 year commitment.
1300 is not a career path and I am not eligible for promotion to O4. I will have be in zone two times before my obligation is up.

I am reluctant to contact my detailer at this point because they are tasking guys to go to Iraq and be on the IED task force.

I am pretty much stuck as far as the career goes. I would consider lat transfer to AEDO (if the 1300 is not a show stopper) but they are looking for O4's (which I can't be).

My next option is to get out.

It sounds like you are stuck.

If you wanted to get out, you have really bad timing. I have a friend who turned in his wings last week and will be out of the Navy by the end of the month. He is a really good guy, and was doing really well in his squadron but he had some really bad things happen to him in his personal life and he does not want to fly anymore.

The Navy has to many O-1's and O-2's and they are letting people go.

Yeah, what Steve said. The Command I am at, is sort of a way station for those getting out, so I have seen and heard about a lot of the paperwork. I believe there is a slight difference in the procedure if you are USN vs. USNR.
I am not sure about the NAVADMINs you mentioned, I can't recall recent ones that dealt with RAD, except for early out which is for enlisted only.

Here's how that scenario would play out in the SWO world.

OPS: Captain, I've lost the edge. I'm holding on too tight. I'm sorry, sir. I'm sorry. (OPS tosses SWO pin down on Captain's desk)

Captain: (looks at OPS, stunned at what just transpired but says nothing)

OPS: (head down, leaves Captain's cabin and sees the XO about to tackle him)

XO: (overhears conversation down the p-way and is stunned as well, but not amused) OPS, shut the hell up and get your @ss back to work. And put your pin back on!!

(XO comes into Captain's cabin to dicuss) Captain, you believe this sh!t? What, these guys think they're aviators now and just quit whenever they feel like it?

I know a F-18C pilot dude who basically quit flying over a personality conflict within his squadron. I'm not privy to the details, but Jesus Christ! He gets to keep his wings, but is redesignating.
