Razor Gap

I wish I could go both ways on this... would make my life a hell of alot easier... Electric razors make my skin look like someone took a cheese grater to it. Wouldn't have to go through a whole 15-minute shaving ritual every morning.

Since we're on the subject of razors, for any of y'all that get razor bumps pretty bad, try this: Shave every day with a GOOD razor (not electric) and Aveeno shaving gel. Afterwards, wash your face and use rubbing alcohol for an aftershave. Also try tea-tree oil on your face about 15 minutes before you shave.

One are you using a preshave with an electric? It seems like nobody realizes your supposed to do this, my roommate sure as heck didnt.

Two, after shaving with an electric use cold water to wash off your face and then some kind of moisturizer with aloe, I used to have gritty skin too, this changed it.

Also a word on Razor storage, never keep it in the bathroom. The humidity caused by the shower actually promotes the growth of bacteria on the razor, this is especially big on electrics that go multiple shaves between cleanings. That bacteria increases the skin breakouts and ingrown hairs. Read this in a mens health, never thought of it before.

I have some giant Remington monstrosity (self-cleaning though) that I use for "quick work." I also have a Mach 3 that I got in the mail for my 18th birthday (you'd think they'd target a bit younger) if I really want a close shave.

Shaving cream sucks.

Some of the time, I sport a beard. (Yes, Fatty McHighschools can grow a beard). But it gets old quick, so most of the time, I am not quite bearded, but decidedly "not shaving"... it gets to my teachers.

Lawman,
Yes, I did. I may have just not had a good electric razor. Even using an aloe based moisturizer and pre-shave, it still tore up the skin under my chin.

What I can say though is that after getting into the shaving ritual that I use now, my skin is clearer and softer than its ever been and razor bumps aren't an issue anymore, except when I go a few days with out shaving.

I may go back to an electric later on.

Question for you: do you use one with the rotating blades or the straight blades?

I always use a linear (straight). My dad used to use a rotary, and when I started shaving that was what I used till I bought my own... piece of garbage. The linear I have now is actually designed to move one way against the hair for a closer shave and cuts really well on the first pass. Rotorys in my experiance do more pulling then cutting and that caused the same bumps you had. Yeah electrics are deffinately a get what you paid for item, but to a point. My good one is something like 60ish my crap razor that I have for backup and such is like 30, deffinate differnce in the shave. My dad had to use my razor for a little while, now he owns a linear. I dont know who came up with the rotory but the guys is an idiot, it just doesnt cut and the screen prevents half your hair from even getting to the blade so you have to go over the same area multiple times.

The Braun Activator is the veritable ****. Not only does it have some high-speed, super-secret, computer-designed asymmetric foil to trick hairs inside to their doom, but it cleans itself, too. Rotary electric shavers suck, and while I don't get too bad if I shave low-tech, it's still a lot easier with the trusty Braun. Although, it did take a good solid 2 weeks to get used to an electric razor the first time I bought one.

I don't do the moisturizer thing. Not only does it infringe upon my homophobic personality, but it turns my mug greasier than--well, pretty greasy, anyway. I use a decent aftershave, and it works okay.

You ever thought about growing a mustache? It's less maintenance than a beard and still allows you to cut time off of your shaving. I had one from August, until about a week ago when I shaved it off on a whim. I've decided to grow it back though, becuase it's popular with the ladies. :D

You're absolutely right! I'll be able to make it to work a whole 3 seconds earlier now. Thanks for the tip.

It's all about time management.

Edit: Nevermind, thought AllAmerican went to NMMI and couldn't have facial hair. Apologies.
